A second power source excites the secondary conductors and a second telemetry transceiver excites the central conductor. In one embodiment, the diameter of the primary conductors is greater than a diameter of the secondary conductors. The primary conductor includes four primary conductors symmetrically positioned around the center conductor and the secondary conductors include a secondary conductor positioned in the interstice between each pair of adjacent primary conductors.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method for determining the position, in a formation (1) containing at least one electrolytic liquid, of an interface (6) in relation to a bore hole (2). One stimulates at a first instant the interface (6) with an excitation signal, one detects at a second instant (t2) a response signal converted by electro-osmosis or electrokinetic coupling effect and, if appropriate, the exication signal after reflection at a third instant (t3). With the three instants and the propagation velocity of the signals, one calculates the distance between the interface (6) and the bore hole (2).
Abstract: A method and apparatus for actuating a downhole tool is provided. The apparatus of the present invention includes a remotely energized actuator device that facilitates storage of energy needed to actuate a downhole tool after the device is placed downhole. By energizing the tool downhole, surface exposure to potential safety hazards is reduced.
Abstract: A hybrid telemetry system for passing signals between a surface control unit and a downhole tool is provided. The downhole tool is deployed via a drill string into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation. The hybrid telemetry system includes an uphole connector, a downhole connector, and a cable operatively connecting the uphole and downhole connectors. The uphole connector is operatively connectable to a drill string telemetry system for communication therewith. The downhole connector is operatively connectable to the downhole tool for communication therewith.

Abstract: Methods and systems for thermal compensation of pressure measurements by a pressure gauge. Errors in pressure values are reduced by utilizing a predetermined correlation between the error in pressure measurements, due to temperature gradient in a pressure gauge, and the temperature gradient caused by temperature at a surface of the pressure gauge and temperature at an inner portion of the pressure gauge. Thermally corrected pressure values are derived based on the correlation between the pressure errors and the temperature gradients in conditions such as due to fast and large pressure variations in oil wells.
Abstract: A tool generates signals indicative a shear wave slowness of the formation surrounding a borehole. The tool comprises a collar portion adapted for mounting in a drill string, a quadrupole sonic transmitter mounted to the collar portion, and a quadrupole sonic receiver array mounted to the collar spaced apart from the transmitter. A method determines shear wave slowness of the formation. The method includes propagating quadrupole wave energy into the formation and detecting quadrupole dispersive waveform received at a second location. Formation shear wave slowness is calculated using dispersive slowness time coherence processing.

Abstract: A technique is provided for pumping fluids in a subterranean wellbore. A submersible pumping system can be deployed in a wellbore for moving desired fluids within the wellbore. The pumping system energizes the desired fluid movement by reciprocating a working fluid between expandable members.
Abstract: Compositions, apparatus incorporating a composition, and methods of use are described, one composition embodiment consisting essentially of one or more reactive metals in major proportion, and one or more alloying elements in minor proportion, with the provisos that the composition is high-strength, controllably reactive, and degradable under defined conditions. Compositions of the invention may exist in a variety of morphologies, including a reactive metal or degradable alloy processed into an alloy of crystalline, amorphous or mixed structure that may constitute the matrix of other composition, for instance a composite. Methods of using apparatus comprising a composition, particularly in oilfield operations are also described (e.g. flow and displacement control, sensors, actuators). This abstract allows a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure. It will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims. 37 CFR 1.72(b).

Abstract: To perform diagnosis of a completion system, at least one parameter of the completion system in a wellbore is monitored using a sensor. A profile is generated based on the monitored parameter, and a real-time diagnosis is performed of an operation of the completion system based on a comparison of the generated profile and an expected profile to identify an anomaly.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for facilitating remote real-time surveillance, management, optimization, and control of pumping systems at a wellsite. A variety of sensors are deployed along pumping systems, such as electric submersible pumping systems, positioned in wellbores. Data from the sensors is output in real-time to a remote location via a network. The system analyzes the data to identify problems and potential problems in the pumping systems and suggest possible causes and corrective measures. The network can be used to provide two-way communication such that control signals may then be sent from the remote location to the pumping systems. Alarms may also be triggered when sensor data or data trends fall outside predetermined ranges.
