Abstract: A system and method of incorporating and coating antimicrobial preparations for building materials by incorporating the antimicrobial preparation into a base material; and forming the base material into a polymer blend and by dispersing an antimicrobial preparation agent evenly in a compatible solution; applying the compatible solution to the building material; and curing the building material to remove the solution. In accordance with the present invention, the building materials that may be used are, for example, house wrap materials, flashing materials, self-adhering flashing materials, sill pans, below grad moisture barriers, subfloor underlayment, roof decks, thresholds, shower pans, material behind or below tile, vapor barriers and any combination thereof. The resulting products will contain antimicrobial preparations distributed throughout the material or coated with the antimicrobial preparations to inhibit the growth of microbes on exterior surfaces and interior regions of the building material.

  • Patent number: 6414077
Abstract: A composition and method of making an improved sealant is disclosed. The sealant is made from a base polymer material that includes one or more substantially linear vinyl, acrylate, or methacrylate monomers, a hydrolyzable silane that includes one or more substantially linear vinyl, acrylate, or methacrylate silanes to produce randomly dispersed silane functionality throughout the polymer and a second hydrolyzable mercapto silane to cap some polymer chains via a chain transfer reaction, wherein the polymer has a glass transition point lower than 10° Fahrenheit and an average molecular weight between about 40,000 and about 500,000. A sealant is made by adding a cross-linking catalyst and other additives to the polymer in such proportions to produce a sealant that cures upon exposure to atmospheric moisture.

  • Patent number: 5856404
Abstract: A water borne back bedding sealant formulated from an acrylic polymer emulsion and a urethane polymer emulsion provides superior adhesion, tensile properties, low temperature flexibility, rheology and bond strength. In one embodiment of the present invention, the back bedding sealant comprises the following components: from 50% to 75% by weight of an acrylic polymer emulsion, from 7% to 25% by weight of a urethane polymer emulsion which is compatible with the acrylic polymer emulsion plus minor amounts of components to be selected from a list comprising: rheology modifiers, glycols, mineral oil, silanes, Ph adjusters, surfactants, water, silicas, and antimicrobial agents. These superior properties can be attained even with a clear sealant.
