Patent number: 11324145Abstract: An environmental control system for a telecom shelter integrates with a native HVAC system for exchanging interior air in a conditioned space in a machine room, telecom enclosure, or other closed machine environment by forcing or directing cooler outside air to replace interior air without active refrigeration by the native HVAC system. Primary cooling and heating of the conditioned space in the enclosure is performed by an exchange system and control logic that identifies, based on sensory input, when outside air exchange is more efficient than native AC (Air Conditioner) operation. The native AC system is suppressed or inhibited, and primary environmental control performed by fan driven exchange of outside air with air in the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2019Date of Patent: May 3, 2022Assignee: Schroff Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Richard De Felice, David Therrien, Robert Paterson, Henry Riddoch

Patent number: 11079161Abstract: A ventilation system maintains a temperature for a computer equipment enclosure using a combination of air conditioning and outside (ambient) air exchange based on a graphical user interface (GUI) for setting a range of temperature at which the ventilation system maintains the temperature. Cooler temperatures allow ambient air exchange to keep the temperature sufficiently low, while air conditioning is invoked when exterior temperatures rise.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2019Date of Patent: August 3, 2021Assignee: Schroff Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Richard De Felice, Robert Paterson, Richard Grundy, Greg MacPherson, Henry Riddoch

Patent number: 10788233Abstract: An HVAC (Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) system for a machine room enclosure monitors the cycle time between powered-on and powered off intervals of a temperature controlled environment in the enclosure. Activation of a cooling unit occurs based on a computed time for attaining a cooling satisfaction threshold and an idle time until cooling is again called for based on a cooling demand threshold. Activation is adjusted based on a duration of the cycle times to avoid an excessive duration or brevity that imposes a strain on the cooling unit. The cooling demand and satisfaction thresholds are adjusted up or down to moderate the activated and idle cycle time. Additional adjustments are made for aged equipment that may be less efficient and more susceptible to strain from excessive cycling, and for extreme ambient temperatures that impose a greater burden and which may require additional time for reducing enclosure temperature.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2018Date of Patent: September 29, 2020Assignee: Schroff Technologies International, Inc.Inventor: Richard De Felice

Patent number: 10670315Abstract: An HVAC controller for an equipment enclosure or machine room employs ambient air exchange and compressor driven cooling appliances for maintaining an operating temperature of a telecommunications machine room within acceptable levels. Coordinated engagement of the ambient air exchange and a plurality of lead/lag cooling appliances provides staged engagement of the cooling appliances to correspond to a cooling demand. Designation of lead and lag cooling appliances is alternated according to a designation interval to avoid disproportionate use of individual cooling appliances for promoting longevity. Multiple cooling appliances alternate the lead/lag designation to equalize equipment wear, and alternation of the lead/lag designation follows an normal operational satisfaction of the cooling demand, to minimize a frequency of equipment engagement (power up) cycles which contribute to wear.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2016Date of Patent: June 2, 2020Assignee: Schroff Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Richard De Felice, Robert Paterson, Richard Grundy, Greg MacPherson, Henry Riddoch

Publication number: 20130035031Abstract: A system configured to provide cooling of electronic equipment in a shelter in combination with an air conditioning (A/C) system. The system includes one or more blowers for drawing air into the shelter, a damper arrangement for controlling air exhaust. The system further includes a DC powered controller coupled to the one or more blowers, the damper arrangement, and the A/C system. The controller is configured to receive at least a first analog input signal associated with a shelter-interior temperature, a second analog input signal associated with a shelter-exterior temperature, and a plurality of alarm input signals and to generate the one or more first control signals to control blower rotational speed, the second control signal to open/close the damper arrangement, and a third control signal to inhibit/activate the A/C system based on at least the first analog input signal, or the second analog input signal, or a plurality of alarm input signals, or a combination of these.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2012Publication date: February 7, 2013Applicants: MINEBEA CO., LTD., SCHROFF TECHNOLOGIES INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventors: Schroff Technologies International, Inc., Minebea Co., Ltd.
