Patent number: 5220517Abstract: A plurality of gas flow control units in cabinets are connected to distribute process gas, on demand, to a plurality of utilization locations known as "tool" locations in a semi-conductor manufacturing plant. Each gas flow control unit is connected to a single tool interface controller over a single communications cable. The status and operational characteristics of the individual units are communicated through the tool interface controller to a supervisory control computer by means of polling. Each flow control cabinet has its own data processor, and can be operated alone. Also, the supervisory computer can be used to operate each cabinet, as well as to monitor operations of the system. Gas demand and other signals are communicated from each tool location to the control units through a single cable connected to the interface controller, thus reducing the original wiring cost.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1990Date of Patent: June 15, 1993Assignee: SCI Systems, Inc.Inventors: Dennis A. Patent number: 4928133Abstract: The printer utilizes a high-speed data print engine to print documents such as airline tickets. Preferably, the printer is part of a machine which is operated by a credit-card or the like so that the machine serves as a customer-operated ticket issuing terminal. The ticket blanks preferably are in fan-fold form, with perforations between them. An improved separator or "burster" is provided for separating the ticket blanks from one another. The burster has an arm which is moved rapidly across the path of travel of the ticket blanks at or near the location of the perforation, while a drive roller mechanism holds the blanks against longitudinal slippage during bursting. Preferably, the printed ticket coupons in each batch of tickets are collected in a bin inside the machine until it is determined that the batch is complete. Only then are the tickets delivered outside the machine to the purchaser.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1989Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: SCI Systems, Inc.Inventor: Alfred L. Fulton

Patent number: 4857945Abstract: A printer and method employing latent electrostatic image development in which the toner brush and print drum operate on separate cycles. See, FIGS. 28 and 28A and the description associated with these figures under the heading, "Toner Brush Drive." Two different drive motors are used to drive the drum and the toner brush, and the toner brush is operated only during those portions of a printing cycle during which latent electrostatic image-bearing areas of the drum are moving past the toner brush. This minimizes the waste and accumulation of wasted toner materials in the printer and the frequency with which accumulations of wasted toner must be removed from the printer. The use of a separate drive motor for the toner brush has the added advantage that it eliminates oscillation and gear-lash, thereby eliminating uneven darkness in the printing.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1988Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: SCI Systems, Inc.Inventor: Steven M. Patent number: 4742477Abstract: The computer terminal controller makes it possible to operate a relatively large number of input-output terminals with a single mainframe computer. The controller has a basic configuration enabling it to control up to sixteen terminals. However, the user easily can increase its capacity by adding one or more expansion modules, each module consisting of a cable connector panel and a printed circuit card. Precise locating pins and support structure and hand-operable fasteners are used to mount the panel so that no tools or special skills are needed. Each circuit card preferably contains sufficient circuitry to handle a specific number of additional input/output terminals, and the panel has the same number of cable connectors. The card and the panel are connected to one another by simply plugging them together. The card is guided accurately into engagement with the panel by card guides.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1984Date of Patent: May 3, 1988Assignee: SCI Systems, Inc.Inventors: Darwin E. Patent number: 4293233Abstract: The intermittent movement of the printer's carriage and "daisy"-type print wheel is controlled by a relatively simple, reliable digital control system. The difference between the desired velocity and the actual velocity of each member is measured digitally. This difference constitutes an error signal which is used to retrieve stored values of acceleration or deceleration corresponding to various values of the error signal. These values are used to develop a corresponding electrical signal which is used to accelerate or decelerate the member to reach the desired velocity. A relatively simple circuit is provided for reliably returning the carriage or print wheel to a desired position after overshooting the position, despite a relatively large amount of overshoot. Simple, low-power-consumption holding or drive circuits utilizing pulsed voltages are provided for the stepping motors used for ribbon feed and line feed, and for the solenoids used for ribbon shift, print wheel shift and print hammer energization.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1980Date of Patent: October 6, 1981Assignee: SCI Systems, Inc.Inventor: Mark H.
