  • Publication number: 20070227891
Abstract: Notable techniques for protein separation prior to any further downstream analysis include the Sodium Doecyl Sulphate-PolyAcrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). However, SDS-PAGE suffers from limitations such as band broadening and the ineffective separation of proteins or proteins isoforms with very similar migration mobilities under the influence of an electric field. Currently, the best method for protein separation and resolution with very narrow molecular weight variation utililizing SDS-PAGE is by pulse electrophoresis. However, pulse electrophoresis introduces new limitations such as the long run period required, band broadening contributed by diffusion when the electrical field is switched off, and the need for casting of inconvenient and unconventional long separating gel arise. An embodiment of the invention describes use of a differential alternating field electrophoresis (DAFE) method where electrical fields in substantially opposing directions are applied to proteins for separation thereof.

  • Patent number: 7276811
Abstract: A submarine power feeding branching device comprises a constant current-constant current converter which isolates an input side for a trunk submarine cable from an output side for a branch submarine cable. The converter receives a first constant current and produces a second constant current by using the first constant current. The second constant current is supplied to the output side while the first constant current is returned to the input side. Because the input side and the output side are isolated, it is easy to add/remove the device to/from a submarine power feeding system. Intensity of the second constant current can be controlled by controlling duty ratios of switches included in the converter. Thus, it is possible that the intensity of the second constant current is equal to that of the first constant current. Therefore, a submarine repeater can be provided along either the trunk cable or the branch cable.

  • Publication number: 20070225157
Abstract: An asymmetric alkyl compound producing method of the present invention includes a synthesizing step of carrying out an asymmetric synthesis reaction by mixing (i) a reaction solution containing a glycine imine ester, an alkyl halide, and an asymmetric catalyst having a catalytic action which causes the asymmetric synthesis reaction to proceed with (ii) an alkali-treated solid support obtained by treating with an alkaline substance a solid support made of an inorganic compound. By placing this mixture at room temperature, the asymmetric alkylation occurs between the glycine imine ester and the alkyl halide which are catalyzed by the asymmetric catalyst in an alkali-treated solid support contained in the mixture, and the asymmetric alkylation is completed in about 1 hour. Thus, a highly optically pure asymmetric alkyl compound can be obtained in high yield.
