Abstract: Acceleration of a set of three frames of video with N movers may be determined by generating an inverse Fourier transformation of a differential phase correlation matrix of the three frames. The resultant acceleration estimate may be integrated with the velocity and offset estimates for the second frame so as to provide an offset estimate for the third frame. The third frame may then be co-registered with a reference frame. This process may be repeated for subsequent frames so that subsequent frames may also be registered to the reference frame so that video jitter that was caused by platform shake may be reduced or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 7209479
Abstract: A virtual private network (VPN) over a telecommunications network is created by sending a request from a first VPN device to a second VPN device for establishing a VPN between the first and second VPN devices. The request includes a first signed certificate having a verified VPN parameter for the first VPN device. A reply is received at the first VPN device from the second VPN device that includes a second signed certificate having a verified VPN parameter for the second VPN device. The VPN is established between the first and second VPN devices based on each verified VPN parameter for each of the first and second VPN devices.

  • Patent number: 7118530
Abstract: An interface for a system and method for evaluating the effectiveness of a person to perform a task based on his/her preceding or predicted sleep pattern is provided. The interface allows a user to use actual sleep data or predicted sleep data to produce predictions of the task effectiveness of a person to perform a particular task. The predictions may be in tabular, graphical, or tabular and graphical format. The interface may also represent the effectiveness of a user based on the actual or predicted sleep data in conjunction with an actual or predicted work schedule or pattern. The results can be correlated to sunlight in the user's location, and can also account for changes in the users location (transmeridian shifts), sunlight during the user's sleep cycle (shift work), and other schedule modifying events.

  • Patent number: 6907473
Abstract: A plurality of computer nodes communicate using seemingly random Internet Protocol source and destination addresses. Data packets matching criteria defined by a moving window of valid addresses are accepted for further processing, while those that do not meet the criteria are quickly rejected. Improvements to the basic design include (1) a load balancer that distributes packets across different transmission paths according to transmission path quality; (2) a DNS proxy server that transparently creates a virtual private network in response to a domain name inquiry; (3) a large-to-small link bandwidth management feature that prevents denial-of-service attacks at system chokepoints; (4) a traffic limiter that regulates incoming packets by limiting the rate at which a transmitter can be synchronized with a receiver; and (5) a signaling synchronizer, that allows a large number of nodes to communicate with a central node by partitioning the communication function between two separate entities.

  • Patent number: 6839759
Abstract: A technique is disclosed for establishing a secure communication link between a first computer and a second computer over a computer network. Initially, a secure communication mode of communication is enabled at a first computer without a user entering any cryptographic information for establishing the secure communication mode of communication. Then, a secure communication link is established between the first computer and a second computer over a computer network based on the enabled secure communication mode of communication. The secure communication link is a virtual private network communication link over the computer network in which one or more data values that vary according to a pseudo-random sequence are inserted into each data packet.

  • Patent number: 6792439
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for combining a plurality of random number generators into a combined random number generator. The outputs of the plurality of generators are interleaved into a combined stream of random numbers selected from each of the plurality of random-number generators. A value of x is calculated by each of the random number generators. Each of the values of x is mapped to a respective arrival time t for each of the random number generators. One of the random number generators having an earliest respective arrival time t is determined. A random number based on the arrival time t is generated.

  • Patent number: 6691141
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for generating a parameter value to be used as a parameter for a random number generator. A random value is generated and the random value is mapped to a prime number. The parameter value is generated by multiplying the prime number by previously selected prime numbers. Each parameter value is then used as one of a plurality of parameters for the random number generator.

  • Patent number: 6618761
Abstract: Methods and systems allowing a plurality of computer nodes to communicate using weighted transmission paths are provided. A load balancer distributes packets across weighted transmission paths according to transmission path quality, which is monitored and updated from time to time. As transmission quality on a specific transmission path decreases, the weight assigned to that transmission path is reduced. Similarly, weights may be increased if transmission quality improves. The weights assigned to various transmission paths may correspond to a relative number of packets to be transmitted on each respective transmission path. The transmission path for each packet can be selected based on the weights of the various transmission paths. Using weights based on transmission quality, transmission paths with higher transmission quality are used more often than transmission paths with lower transmission quality, resulting in more efficient communications.

  • Patent number: 6579233
Abstract: A method for evaluating the effectiveness of a person to perform a task based on his/her previous or predicted sleep activity is provided. The method can be used to predict changes in task effectiveness at any time of day, based upon numerous patterns of sleep and activity, either experienced or planned for the future. The method take into account progressive increases in sleep deprivation, the effects of the time of day on performance, and changes in the time when a person sleeps and works. The method also accounts for the quality of a sleep interval and a person's sleep inertia, the temporary slowing of performance immediately after awakening. The method is homeostatic. Gradual decreases in sleep debt decrease sleep intensity. Progressive increases in sleep debt produced by extended periods of less than optimal levels of sleep lead to increased sleep intensity.

  • Patent number: 6350350
Abstract: An integrated system and method for removing excess nutrients from water, for removing the nutrients from the removal site, for enhancing soil, and for producing pulp and paper products includes bioremediating water to be treated with cultured algae or another suitable plant matter in an attached periphyton bed, harvesting the algae/plant matter to produce a wet algal biomass, and mixing the wet biomass with a shredded fibrous material to produce a pulp. The pulp can be molded into a biodegradable package that can be utilized as a delivery vehicle to a site having nutrient-enrichable soil, where the package can be used as a soil amendment after being used as a delivery vehicle. The pulp can also be made into a paper product that is biodegradable and has the characteristic of enhancing soil quality.

  • Patent number: 5828726
Abstract: A portable, self-contained, electronic radioscopic imaging system uses a pulsed X-ray source, a remote X-ray sensor, and a self-contained, display and controller unit to produce, store, and/or display digital radioscopic images of an object under investigation. The pulsed X-ray source transmits a burst of narrow pulses of X-rays at the object being investigated at a low repetition rate. The X-ray sensor utilizes an X-ray scintillating screen in combination with either an integrating CCD camera, or an active matrix of thin film transistors and sample-and-hold photodiodes, to produce an integrated signal representative of the accumulated number of flashes of radiation (X-ray pulses that pass through the object) that are sensed in a given pixel area of the scintillating screen.

  • Patent number: 4664035
Abstract: An improved anti-ballistic missile warhead in which the missile structure and warhead projectiles are combined into a single entity. The structure, which may be formed of superalloy to resist heat, requires no heat shield, the outer surface being aerodynamically smooth. It is fabricated by precision casting, individual projectiles being pre-formed by casting internal cavities which delineate the projectiles for at least a substantial part of the thickness of the casting. Figuratively, the combined missile structure and warhead is in the form of a pineapple or hand grenade which is "inside out". The explosive may be cast in place or installed separately within a thin canister. Because there is no skin to pierce, less explosive is required and dispersion is substantially reduced.
