  • Patent number: 8755903
Abstract: The present invention discloses a functional electrical stimulation system comprising a primary power, a boost module, an energy storage section, an output control relay, an automatic discharge circuit, a foot/hand controlled switch, a current detection chip and a current limiting fuse. The boost module comprises n DC chopper circuits connected in series, and outputs a high voltage of 100-200V. According to an enable signal and a current detection signal, the output control relay disables/enables the DC boost module. The automatic discharge circuit discharges capacitance of the energy storage section automatically when the relay turns off the power input. The Foot/hand controlled switch, the current detection chip and the current limiting fuse form a triple accident protection circuit. The functional electrical stimulation system maximizes the intensity of electrical stimulation within the range that the human body can withstand.

  • Publication number: 20140162324
Abstract: Non-food plant biomass is subjected hot-water extraction in a pressurized vessel at an elevated temperature up to about 250° C. without addition of reagents, to yield an aqueous extract containing hemicellulosic components and a lignocellulosic residue. The process leaves the lignocellulose substantially intact, but with the hemicellulosic content largely removed. The separated aqueous extract or liquor is concentrated and purified, and long-chain sugars are reduced into monomer saccharides. The lignocellulosic residue may be further processed, to yield a useful fibrous material that is highly resistant to sorption of water. This material may be used for composite materials that resist water degradation, or may be used to produce a higher thermal-yield, water-resistant fuel, or may be used as bioconversion feedstock for producing high-value, lignocellulosic derivatives.

  • Publication number: 20140158536
Abstract: In the present invention, the solid contacted ISE and the solid contacted reference are based on a conductive porous network with a solid contact and membrane disposed thereon. The porous networks are not only mechanically stable, but also provide pore structure for the solid contact and membrane to intercalate, which enhances the life time and stability of the sensors. The invention further incorporates a unique fluidic fitting sensor and sealing mechanism so that measurements can be taken at high pressures. The fitting design has many benefits, such as low cost and disposability, which allows them to be mass manufactured. These sensors can be produced for detection of many different kinds of ions by applying different types of ion selective membranes, including polyvinylchloride (PVC) based ion-selective membranes and fluorous matrixes based ion-selective membranes.
