  • Patent number: 7548696
Abstract: A fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) system transmits forward and reverse optical signals, such as video, voice, and data signals, via optical fiber, and includes a plurality of home network units. The home network units include an optical receiver for receiving at least one of the video, voice, and data signals. Included is a plurality of gain stages that are distributed throughout the optical receiver. The gain stages include a preamplifier stage, two interstage amplifiers, and a postamplifier stage. Two gain control circuits automatically adjust the gain of the video signal based upon the input power level to the FTTH optical receiver. Additionally, a tilt network performs level compensation for externally located coaxial cable. A signal is then provided to a device located within a home via the coaxial cable at the proper RF level having low noise signals.

  • Patent number: 7548543
Abstract: The present invention is suitable for use in a communications system that transmits a transport stream, such as an MPEG stream. The present invention addresses the need of generating a valid value for a duplicated packet in the transport stream. A first embodiment of the present invention interpolates between a PCR value in the duplicated packet and the PCR value in the next PCR packet. A second embodiment of the present invention copies an original packet along with its PCR value into a duplicate packet and a PCR-bearing packet. Subsequently, the present invention interpolates a new value for the original packet based on the original value in the duplicated PCR-bearing packet and the previous value in a PCR-bearing packet.

  • Patent number: 7546618
Abstract: A conditional access device is provided. The conditional access device typically includes conditional access decryption, interface, timing and control logic. The conditional access decryption logic decrypts an incoming signal for use in a consumer electronics device in accordance with previously received entitlement management messages. The interface logic receives a control signal including an entitlement management message window from a headend control system through a receiver in the consumer electronics device. The timing logic asserts an awake signal responsive to the entitlement management message window becoming active. The control logic sends a request to the consumer electronic device to activate a receiver coupled to the headend control system in expectation of receiving an entitlement management message via the control signal in response to assertion of the awake signal. The control logic also communicates the entitlement management message to the conditional access decryption logic.

  • Patent number: 7545935
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing encrypted downstream signals to a plurality of receiver devices 130, 135, 140, where the devices 130, 135, 140 may have different decryption devices. A receiver network (i.e., a networked multimedia system) includes a splitter/isolation module (SIM) 125, a primary set-top terminal (STT) 130, and at least one remote device 135, 140. The remote devices 135, 140 communicate with the primary STT 130 via the SIM 125 over coaxial cable. Accordingly, the remote devices 135, 140 are capable of requesting and receiving stored programs via the networked multimedia overlay system. Depending upon the decryption device included in the requesting remote STT 135, 140, the primary STT 130 sends a stored program encrypted according to that decryption device.

  • Patent number: 7532673
Abstract: A broadband communications system uses modulation symbol transport over communications links to replace baseband or bandpass signal transport, thereby providing longer communication distances, lower communication link bandwidth, and greater signal quality. Subsequent to transporting the modulation symbols, the symbols are modulated and further transmitted over the RF transmission network.

  • Patent number: 7530092
Abstract: A system and method for minimizing timeouts when enhanced services are requested through a digital home communications terminal (DHCT) requiring discovery of a service group identification (SGID) assigned to the DHCT. A service group map (SGM) includes a plurality of entries. Each entry includes a frequency, a tabulated transport stream identification (TSID), and a SGID associated with one another. The SGM has multiple occurrences of the same frequency. Each of the entries are prioritized relative one another such that the frequencies associated with first occurrences of each SGID have the highest priority.

  • Patent number: 7519999
Abstract: A digital subscriber communication terminal includes an adaptive output interface having a device key set, which, along with a subscriber device coupled to the adaptive output interface, determines a “shared secret.” The adaptive output interface uses the “shared secret” to encrypt content and transmits the content to the subscriber device coupled to the adaptive output interface. The digital subscriber communications terminal includes a processor, a memory having an encrypted device key set and an encrypted device key set decryptor stored therein and a secure element having a key decryptor. The secure element is adapted to receive the encrypted device key set decryptor and use the key decryptor to decrypt the encrypted device key set decryptor. The device key set decryptor is provided to the processor, which decrypts the encrypted device key set using the device key set decryptor, and the device key set is loaded into the adaptive output interface.
