  • Patent number: 6981875
Abstract: Securing a dental post or a crown or bridge onto the dentin portion of a prepared tooth by utilizing a no-mix, two component, self-curing cement wherein the first component of the cement is applied to the interior dentin surfaces of a post hole, or onto the dentin surface of the tooth receiving the crown or bridge, and applying the second component of the cement onto the surface of a post, or crown or bridge so that when the post or crown or bridge is fitted onto the exposed dentin of a prepared tooth, the complementary components of the cement immediately chemically set to firmly secure the post, crown or bridge onto the prepared tooth. The respective components of the no-mix, two component, self-curing cement formulation for practicing the method require that each include a methacrylate resin. One of the components also includes an aromatic tertiary amine and the other component includes an organic peroxide.

  • Patent number: 6696043
Abstract: Described herein is a novel teeth whitening chewing gum formulation comprising bivalent metal peroxide(s) and anhydrous organic acids. Upon mastication in the oral environment, the acids react with the peroxide to form hydrogen peroxide in situ, in an environment stimulating the decomposition of such peroxide to form water and radical oxygen. The system is characterized by its efficacy and convenience. The teeth whitening composition of the preferred embodiment is also virtually insensitive to storage conditions, allowing for an extended shelf life.

  • Patent number: 6488913
Abstract: Described herein is a novel high efficiency teeth bleaching system based on thesynergetic action of the combination of hydrogen peroxide (in a free form or in the form of its adduct with urea) and peroxide and/or percarbonates of metals belonging to the first or second group of the periodic table. In one embodiment, the system of the preferred embodiment comprises two components, one containing hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide (hydrogen peroxide/urea adduct), and the other containing metal peroxides and/or percarbonates. Mixing of the two components results in the accelerated generation of radical oxygen, which relates to faster teeth bleaching action.

  • Patent number: 6447757
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions for bleaching teeth comprising at least two parts blended together before each application. The compositions offer extended shelf life and accelerated bleaching action while significantly reducing the possibility of user discomfort. In preferred embodiments, one part of the composition comprises peroxides of monovalent or bivalent metals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, and zinc, and another part comprises an aqueous solution of one or more acids able to convert said metal peroxides into hydrogen peroxide, such reaction occurring under conditions resulting in the acceleration of the generation of radical oxygen and, consequently, the teeth whitening process. The inventive compositions allow for adequate water in the composition to avoid tissue desiccation and associated user discomfort without compromising the shelf life of the composition.

  • Patent number: 6284030
Abstract: A one-component paste-consistency dental material which cures upon contact with oral fluids intended primarily for use as a temporary restorative/cement. The formulation includes solid particles reactive with water dispersed in a hydrophobic viscous binder which, upon exposure to moisture, will solidify to a depth in excess of 8 mm measured from the surface/water contact area. The curing mechanism relies on both formation of hydrates and reaction of organic polyacids with alkaline glass or metal oxides, or the salts of metal oxides with weak acids. The resulting cured material is non toxic, resistant to deterioration in oral fluids, possesses adequate water resistance, and, optionally, may release fluoride desirable for prevention of secondary decays and alleviation of postoperative tooth sensitivity.
