    Abstract: A goggle has a replaceable plastic lens mounted in a flexible frame containing several air vents for passing external air through the goggle interior. The lens is formed of thermoplastic materials to provide spherical and cylindrical versions of the lens. The thermoplastic resins incorporate dyes which tint the lens to create a transmission curve with a broad flattened peak above a 50% transmission level and steep slopes to couple with the response characteristics of the rods of the human eye retina so as to improve contrast in very low light conditions such as night skiing under artificial light. Inlet and outlet air vents are covered by porous foam to reduce fogging in an outdoor environment.

    Abstract: A motorcycle goggle includes a supply magazine and a take-up magazine mounted to opposite sides of a goggle frame and contain a transparent film which moves across the outer surface of a main lens to protect the main lens from mud or external matter. The main lens includes a plurality of projections attached to the lens to raise the transparent film off the main lens surface. The projections can be formed by transparent ink droplets which are printed by a silk screen process onto the outer surface of the main lens, and consist in one form of two types of ink forming each raised ink droplet.

    Abstract: A goggle has a replaceable lens mounted in a flexible frame containing several large air vents facing forwardly to input external air into the goggle interior. The inlet air vents have converging and angled walls. A first porous foam of particular porosity covers the inlet air vents and is located in an upper air channel with a curved deflector wall to disperse the external air into the interior space. Exit vents located in the bottom of the frame are covered with a second porous foam of different characteristics than the first porous foam. The sides of the goggle frame include curved slots with curved retention bars around which a stretchable headband strap is secured to create uneven load forces on the sides of the goggle frame.

    Abstract: A motorcycle boot includes a lower vamp shell having a front tongue and rear tapering flaps which extend into an upper shell assembly formed by a hinged front door and a rear cuff. The door, of impact resistant plastic to protect the wearer's shin, interleaves with the cuff and is closed by overlying flexible straps. A closure system includes wire bales, longitudinally adjustable within holes spaced along the straps, and received with toothed latched receivers. The side legs of each wire bale snap-fits under locking flanges when the bale is closed over center. A connector hinge assembly includes a slotted plate, attached to the vamp shell, through which extends a freely movable pivot pin journalled in the upper shell to allow forward and rearward motion, rockable sideways motion, and lateral twisting of the shells. A replaceable sole insert, formed by a resilient pad molded to a carrier plate, is mechanically locked within a base recess on the bottom of the shell.

    Abstract: A sports boot such as used for skiing has an upper shell interconnected in the ankle region to a lower vamp shell by a pair of side primary pivots. The lower edge of the upper shell has an integrally molded front receptacle which faces a front receptacle integrally molded into the upper edge of the lower vamp shell. The receptacles hold a replaceable resilient insert, the vertical extent of which determines the forward lean angle of the upper shell, and the resiliency of which controls the flex characteristics of the upper shell when pivoted relative to the lower shell. The ends of the receptacles form overlapping stop flanges which abut a replaceable bumper having a vertical extent which controls the maximum rear lean angle of the upper. Rear entry into the boot is provided by a rear door connected by a pair of side door pivots to the upper, and which overlaps a separate replaceable heel door with interior padding for holding down the wearer's heel.

    Abstract: A ski glove or mitt capable of interlocking engagement with an extension on a strapless ski pole grip has a protective covering with a thumb stall and a finger stall for containing one or more fingers of the skier's hand. An interlock layer, stitched to the back of the protective covering, has a raised padding which surrounds a recess having a shape conforming to the shape of the grip extension for snugly seating the grip extension. A palmar layer of anti-slip fabric impregnated with a vinyl is stitched to the palm of the protective covering and has a stippled texture which mates with stipples on the grip body. Shock absorption is provided by a padded heel stitched to the heel of the protective covering where the bottom of the skier's hand engages a platform on the ski pole grip.

    Abstract: A motorcycle boot has an upper wrap-around shell, closed by a buckle and strap, which overlaps a lower vamp shell having a plurality of forward and rear tapering fingers which extend into the upper shell to allow hinging movement of the upper shell. Flexible liners are inserted into the vamp to custom fit the vamp shell to a wearer's foot. An interconnecting hinge assembly includes a pivot pin, journalled in the upper shell, and slidably mounted within a slotted plate attached to the lower shell, to allow the upper shell to pivot forwardly and rearwardly and rock sideways. The base of the lower shell, with a steel plate embedded in the instep arch, is covered by a replaceable sole attached by adhesive which forms a rupturable seal. To waterproof the boot, a flexible cylindrical liner is sealed to the lower vamp and extends through the upper shell, with the liner top being folded down and externally attached to the upper shell.
