Patents Assigned to Seabrook Medical Systems, Inc.
  • Patent number: 5647051
Abstract: A cold therapy system for applying a cooling pad to an area of the body of the user. The system comprises a portable insulated cooler having a lid and serving as a reservoir for water and ice. A pump is located within a housing affixed to the exterior of the cooler. The pump has an inlet operatively connected to the reservoir through the adjacent cooler wall. The pump has an outlet connected by an insulated delivery tube to the inlet of a pad. The outlet of the pad is connected by an insulated return tube, through the cooler wall to which the pump housing is affixed, to the reservoir. The pump is provided with a pulse-width modulating circuit having an electronic switch output that switches an intermittent drive current to the pump motor according to any one of a number of predetermined operating modes selectable by the operator through the use of a manual switch.

  • Patent number: 5476489
Abstract: A cold therapy system for appyling a cooling pad to an area of the body of the user. The system comprises a portable insulated cooler with a lid. A reservoir bag of plyable waterproof material is locatable within said cooler and has a closable open top for the introduction of water and ice into the bag. A multispeed pump is located in a housing affixed to the exterior of the cooler. The pump has an inlet operatively connected to an outlet tubing flange affixed to the bag. The pump has an outlet operatively connected to an insulated delivery tube connected to an inlet of the pad. The outlet of the pad is connected by an insulated return tube to an inlet flange of the reservoir bag. A portion of the insulation of one of the delivery and return tubes, is retractable to expose a segment of its respective tube containing a liquid crystal temperature indicator for determining the temperature of the fluid flowing through the system.

  • Patent number: 4844072
Abstract: A system for circulating hot or cold liquid through a pad placed in thermal contact with a patient for thermal therapy. The system includes a flexible thermal pad with an internal channel for carrying the liquid and a pump assembly for circulating and optionally heating the liquid. The patient-contacting surface of the pad comprises a foam having a cushioned surface to reduce the risk of ischemia and enhance patient comfort. An open-cell foam structure absorbs and retains moisture for applying moist heat. The system is microprocessor controlled and includes a heater to warm the liquid to a selectable temperature for heat therapy. A display selectively indicates set-point or actual liquid temperature in either .degree. F. or .degree. C. as desired. Safety features include three separate over-temperature sensors, a tilt switch and a float switch which de-energize both the heater and the pump when an abnormal temperature is sensed, the unit is tipped or a low liquid level is sensed, respectively.
