  • Patent number: 11119862
Abstract: Method and apparatus for managing data in a distributed data storage system, such as but not limited to a cloud computing environment. In some embodiments, snapshots of a data set are uploaded from a source storage subsystem to a cloud store, along with intervening difference information volumes (DIVs). The DIVs are data structures that identify a set of updated data blocks that have been changed by the source storage subsystem between each successive pair of the snapshots. A reader subsystem requests and uses the latest DIV to request the latest set of changed data blocks from the cloud store, and uses the latest set of changed data blocks to update a previous snapshot to generate a copy of the most recent snapshot. The source and reader subsystems can comprise Internet of Things (IoT) devices, client devices, edge computing devices, etc. from different vendors and which utilize different protocols.

  • Patent number: 11121729
Abstract: An error recovery process provides for identifying a set of failed data blocks read from a storage medium during execution of a read command, populating sample buffers in a read channel with data of a first subset of the set of failed data blocks, and initiating an error recovery process on the data in the sample buffers. Responsive to successful recovery of one or more data blocks in the first subset, recovered data is released from the sample buffers and sample buffers locations previously-storing the recovered data are repopulated with data of a second subset of the set of failed data blocks. The error recovery process is then initiated on the data of the second subset of the failed data blocks while the error recovery process is ongoing with respect to data of the first subset of failed data blocks remaining in the sample buffers.

  • Publication number: 20210271623
Abstract: A data storage system can employ at least one data storage device having a supplemental processing bus that connects a first controller to a second controller with the supplemental bus being exposed to an exterior surface of a housing. The second controller may be positioned on a portable computing component connected to the supplemental bus while the portable computing component is positioned external to the housing. The computing capabilities of the portable computing component are identified with the first controller to allow a supplementation strategy to be generated with the first controller in response to connection of the portable computing component to the supplemental bus. • Patent number: 11106390
Abstract: Method and apparatus for managing data in a storage device, such as a solid-state drive (SSD). In some embodiments, a first read command from a command queue is forwarded to a non-volatile memory (NVM) to request retrieval of a first set of readback data. While the NVM initiates in-process execution of the first read command, an expanded read command is issued to the NVM. The expanded read command supercedes the first read command and requests an expanded set of readback data that includes the first set of readback data as well as a second set of readback data. The second set of readback data may be associated with a second read command in the command queue. The NVM transfers the expanded set of readback data to a read buffer responsive to the expanded read command. The first and second read commands may be client reads, background reads or both.
