  • Patent number: 6592919
Abstract: A device or sachet (3) for maintaining or modifying the atmosphere in a package suitable for meat, beef, lamb, pork, etc. the device including at least two containing layers (4, 5), a moisture activated chemical substance (6) contained by the containing layers, and at least one absorbent layer (7). Moisture within the package is soaked up by the absorbing layer. The moisture is then transferred from the absorbing layer to permeate through a micro-porous layer (5) as water vapor and activate the chemicals. The gas produced by the chemicals then passes through the sachet and into the package's atmosphere. This modifies the atomosphere to ensure that there is an adequate quantity of CO2 for achieving the desired shelf life of the packaged food.

  • Patent number: 5902842
Abstract: A temperature sensitive material and method of preparing the same includes an oil-in-water emulsion in which the emulsifier type and content are controlled, as are the freezing point of the oil phase, the freezing point of the water phase, the oil-to-water ratio and the particle size of the oil phase and to which additives are introduced in the water phase, selected from the group consisting of a salt, glycerol and urea such that the material undergoes an irreversible optical change when subjected to a temperature above the reveal temperature of the emulsion.

  • Patent number: 5617812
Abstract: A tamper evident system for indicating when a closed enclosure (24) has been opened comprises a window (21) and a sensor (22) colour sensitive to presence of a gas. The sensor (22) is located in the enclosure (24) so as to be visible through the window (21). Any compositional change of gas in the enclosure (24) is signalled by a change of colour of the sensor (22).
