  • Publication number: 20140053653
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, or methods for testing a mattress system are described herein. Apparatuses and systems can include a robotic arm assembly and a mannequin to simulate natural human motion or movements that occur during use of a mattress system. The apparatuses and systems described herein can test a mattress system for firmness and/or durability. Also described herein are methods for testing a mattress system with a robotic arm assembly and a mannequin.

  • Patent number: 5484195
Abstract: A display assembly for displaying the interior construction of a bedding system comprises the bedding system to be displayed rotatably mounted on a support pedestal so that the viewer, standing in a single location, can see both sides of the system simply by rotating the system with respect to the pedestal. Portions of the ticking and padding layers covering each of the major surfaces of the bedding system are cut-away so that the viewer can see the interior structure as well as each layer of padding and ticking of the piece, i.e., the mattress or the foundation, being examined. To save space, the bedding system is preferably vertically mounted on the pedestal, and to facilitate better understanding by the viewer, the foundation is preferably arranged so that its mattress-receiving surface faces outwardly rather than towards the mattress as occurs in an actual in-use configuration.

  • Patent number: 4155130
Abstract: The improved mattress innerspring unit is provided which includes a plurality of coil springs arranged in a plurality of substantially parallel rows, a plurality of cross helicals extending transversely of the rows of coil springs, lacing together adjacent springs along their terminal convolutions in both the upper and lower surfaces of the unit, at least one border wire extending about the perimeter of the unit and at least one cross helical cap mounted on the end revolutions of a cross helical which cap includes a means for restraining movement of the cross helical outward of the unit. The restraining means of the cross helical cap is positioned inward of the border wire and provides a positive abutment for the end revolution of the cross helical, preventing movement beyond the border wire. A cross helical cap is also provided which is adapted to be mounted on the end of a cross helical and restrain movement of the cross helical beyond a border wire of an innerspring unit.

  • Patent number: 4129908
Abstract: An improved foundation unit for a mattress or the like is provided which is firmer in the center than conventional torsion spring-type foundation units while having sufficient flexibility under normal loads and weight distribution to comfortably support a body upon an overlying mattress. The foundation unit includes a resilient border which protects the edge of an overlying mattress from damage when subject to extraordinary weight concentration and a center region formed of a plurality of cross rails cushioned at least about their upper surfaces which immediately underlie the upper surface of the unit. The cushioning elements may be thick foam housings that cover at least the upper surface of the cross rails or sinuous wire springs that extend along the length of the cross rails. The cross rails themselves preferably have a limited degree of flexibility so as to better withstand high impact loads.
