Abstract: A pivotal mounting mechanism and a method of mounting an axle in an axle mount. A plug is inserted in a receptacle such as the open end of a tube which has at least one J-shaped track. The axle is held in its final position by inter-engagement of the plug and tube. The mounting mechanism is easily assembled and substantially vandal resistant.
Abstract: A moulded plastic chair (1) fabricated using an air mould technique with four substaitially identical legs (4, 5) which are hollow, have a constant cross-section along their length and have a leading convex edge (13) and a rearward concave edge (14). The shape and arrangement of the legs (4, 5) constitutes a stacking mechanism which enables like chairs to be conveniently stacked. A indicator (8) able to indicate the size of the chair (1) is also disclosed as is a pair of protrusions (8) on the upper edge (7) of the backrest (3), the protrusions (8) providing a support for a school bag (10).
Abstract: A school desk (1) having a frame (7) and a desk top (2) with a flat writing surface (3). The desk top (2) is pivoted at its rear edge (11) and movable between a first position in which the writing surface (3) is horizontal and a second position in which the writing surface (3) is inclined. A releasable latch maintains the writing surface (3) inclined. The latch takes the form of two linkages (16, 18) each having a first link (16) and a single common link (18) which form an over-center toggle mechanism. The latch is releasable by fingers passed through an aperture (5) in the desk top (2).
Abstract: An arrangement of linking modular furniture is disclosed. There is a spine (10) supported by-spaced apart stands (6). On each spine are located a number of seat frames (12). The seat frames are supported by at least one arm (18,20) and preferably by arm rests (26) which together with the arms (18,20) form a truss. A table (30) is also provided. A large number of different configurations can be formed by assembly of the above components.
