Abstract: The invention provides a restricting device for a closure including a vent hingedly connected to a frame, the restricting device comprising a plate (1,4) for mounting on a frame, an arm (7) for pivotally mounting on a vent and means for releasably interengaging the arm and the plate, wherein, in use, when the plate and the arm are interengaged, the closure can only be opened a predetermined distance. The means for releasably interengaging the arm and the plate comprise a resilient means (2) adapted to engage a locking pin (5). The engagement between the arm and the plate is released by means of a release means, for example a key (6,6?;6?), which is separate from the rest of the device. A preferred embodiment of the invention provides means (16,17; 18, 20) for preventing over-rotation of the key beyond a position in which the resilient means is in an optimum release position. The device is simple to use and has the advantage that it is detachable.

Abstract: A hinge for supporting a vent between a closed position in which it lies within a fixed frame and an open position in which it extends substantially perpendicularly to the fixed frame comprises a support track, a slider mounted on the support track and a vent arm attached to the support track via the slider by a plurality of links. The hinge further comprises a restricting member for acting between the support track and the vent arm wherein upon movement of the vent arm, the restricting member acts to further restrict movement of the vent arm. The slider includes a body portion and a restricting device for engaging the track, in use, to limit movement of the slider, wherein a portion of the restricting device extends into the body portion of the slider to provide reinforcement thereto.

Abstract: An anti-rubbing block 9 for a friction stay, comprising a body 11 for positioning within a track 1 of a friction stay, the body 11 extending above the track 1 to prevent rubbing of a link 5 of the stay on the track 1, and a flange 13 extending from the body 11 substantially parallel to the track 1, during use, for attachment to a slider 3 of the stay such that the anti-rubbing block 9 moves with the slider 3 along the track 1 during opening and closing of the stay. Such an anti-rubbing block 9 assists in avoiding unnecessary wear and tear, especially when the slider 3 has a metal surface.

Abstract: A friction slider 1 for a friction stay, comprising a body 3, preferably formed of metal, for attachment to struts of a stay, the metal body 3 being shaped to fit and be retained within a channel of the stay, a plastics skin 5 overlaying the metal body 3 to separate the metal body 3 from the channel of a stay, during use, and adjustable means 7 cooperating with the metal body 3 for driving the plastics skin 5 away from the metal body 3 to adjust the friction between the slider 1 and the channel of the stay, during use.

At the upper and of track (10) is a cap (14) with internal surfaces (36) (37) engageable by one end of strut (24). A plastic nose member (35) is riveted to the end of strut (24) and is formed with surfaces (39) (40) shaped to engage the corresponding surfaces (36) (37).

Abstract: A friction supported stay comprising a track (10) secured vertically to a window frame with a slider (15) connected by link (18) to a strut (16) in turn connected to bar (24) which is also connected to slider (15) by a link (21). The bar, which is normally connected to the window has a nose member (35) which engages in a plastic, shaped cap member (14). The cap member (14) has internal cam surfaces (36) (37) which are asymmetrically disposed with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the track. One cam surface is at a greater angle to the axis than the other. The corresponding surfaces of the nose portion (35) of strut (24) are similarly inclined to each other and to the axis of strut (24).

Abstract: A friction stay includes a track 10 for attachment to a window frame. The track 10 has a nose portion 14 with a curved inner surface which receives the nose portion 28 of a bar 24. Bar 24 is pivotally attached to the track 10, by a link 16 joined to the bar 24 at rivet 25 and to track 10 at rivet 17. The bar 24 is also attached to a slider 15, engaged in track 10, by a link 21 pivoted on rivets 22, 23. A brace 18 extends from link 16 to slider 15 and is attached by rivets 19, 20. Optionally an extra link 26 may be included. To provide additional strength, in accordance with this invention, a link 31 is provided, pivoted to link 16 at 32 and to a second slider 35 to 34.
