Abstract: A display apparatus includes an array of pixel elements, each of which can be illuminated by light shone from an individual light source for each pixel. The display apparatus has a base configuration in which the pixel elements form a substantially continuous surface. Each pixel element is mounted on an individual hollow support member that transmits light from the light source to that pixel and has walls that prevent leakage of light. The support member is displaced in forwards and rearward directions by a drive mechanism provided for displacing each support member individually.
