  • Patent number: 6080015
Abstract: A connector for coaxial cables having an inner conductor (14) and an outer conductor (10) separated by a dielectric (16) includes a front body (4) to attach a coaxial cable in the connector and a rear body (8) adapted for connection to the front body (4), and a device for holding the cable in the connector in a manner that permits reproducible deformation of the outer conductor (10) during the connecting operation. The device for holding the cable in position is comprised of a ferrule (1) for holding the coaxial cable, and a bushing (2) that cooperates with the ferrule (1) to permit axial movement of the coaxial cable over a determined distance (L) in the connector during the connecting operation. The surfaces of ferrule (1) and bushing (2) cooperate to produce reproducible compression and/or deformation of the outer conductor (10) between said ferrule (1) and said bushing (2) during said connecting operation.

  • Patent number: 5613595
Abstract: This invention relates to an automatic fruit feeding machine mainly including a fixed carrier assemblage and a movable carrier assemblage which is driven by a driving device to continuously move upward and forward relative to the fixed carrier assemblage, so that fruit held thereon are transferred from a lower or back position to a higher or front position on the fixed carrier assemblage step by step until the fruit are fed one by one into a hopper of an associated fruit grading machine mounted below the fruit feeding machine.

  • Patent number: 5563585
Abstract: A transparent housing for installation in a marine raw water line. The housing has an inlet chamber including a perforated plate disposed athwart the housing and comprising the downstream wall of the chamber. The plate permits water flow while acting to trap unwanted materials in the water stream. The transparent housing provides means for visual monitoring of the plate and of the interior of the inlet chamber. A sacrificial zinc pencil is disposed within the chamber to protect metal components and to provide a visual indication of the extent of electrolytic activity within the system. Debris in the sea water, for example, or from a broken pump impeller, or portions broken from the sacrificial anode, become trapped in the inlet chamber where they can be visually observed. In such cases, or when anode replacement is desired, the apparatus can be conveniently removed from service while appropriate changes are made.

  • Patent number: 5459533
Abstract: An eye wear device comprising a frame and lens means supported by the frame to be positioned in front of a wearer's eyes. The improvement characterized in that the lens means is coated with an electrically conductive heat generating layer to be positioned in the wearer's field of vision when the eye wear is worn, and of sufficient resistance to produce enough heat to remove moisture build-up on the lens means.

  • Patent number: 5186922
Abstract: The invention relates to an inexpensive and easy to use method of visualizing an arterial circulation, using biodegradable microspheres which are permeated with an imaging energy absorbent contrast material, such as an X-ray absorbent material, which enables the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. The microspheres may be comprised of a variety of materials, including human albumin, and may be dyed with a number of X-ray absorbent materials, or other imaging energy absorbent materials. The microspheres are injected into the bloodstream at a particular location such that they travel through the desired circulation, e.g. an arterial circulation and ultimately become lodged in the capillaries of a tissue of interest. Upon exposure of the arterial circulation to X-rays, blood vessels therein containing the microspheres will absorb the X-rays, causing them to show on a developed X-ray film in contrast to other blood vessels and body tissue which do not contain the microspheres that transmit the X-rays.

  • Patent number: 4886066
Abstract: A tonometer for measuring the intraocular pressure of an eye featuring an acoustic signaling system for determining the beginning of a pressure measurement. The acoustic system includes a consumable cap having a pair of annular raised surface portions spaced by a recessed area. The raised surface portions provide an eye-engaging surface at the face of the tonometer. A pressure transmitting plunger concentrically suspended between the raised surface portions by a plurality of spider arms combines with the eye-engaging surface to provide a contour which complements a shape of an eye. The recessed area is open along the eye-engaging surface, yet defines a generally enclosed volume when full tonometer-to-eye contact is made. Spaced apart inlet and outlet apertures within the recessed area permit channeling of an acoustic signal to and from the recessed area. Prior to proper coupling of the tonometer to an eye, a substantial amount of the energy of the acoustic signal is lost to free air.

  • Patent number: 4865850
Abstract: A method and a composition for accumulating and the binding of food fats in an animal body gastrointestinal tract. The method and composition rely upon non-biodegradable collagen particles, such as microspheres, having a size of at least two microns and a fat receptor, such as bile, capable of having food fat adhered thereto on the surface of the particles. These particles are sufficiently large so that they do not pass through the surface mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract and permit the particles with the food fat to pass through the gastrointestinal tract and out of the body through animal excretion.

  • Patent number: 4811741
Abstract: A process for making a volumetric determination of the quantity of a fluid, such as a liquid, by evaluation of a small sample of that fluid. The method comprises labeling microspheres with a non-radioactive substance and introducing the labeled microspheres into a body of fluid for which a determination is to be made. The microspheres are allowed to disperse in the body of fluid. Thereafter, a sample of the fluid which is of know or measurable volume, is selected. The number of microspheres present in the sample is then determined, from which a calculation of the volumetric measurement of the fluid may be made. The process is also adaptable to measuring the flow rate of a moving stream of fluid, since volume is one of the parameters of flow rate, and is also adaptable to determine the percentages of fluid components present in a mixture thereof.
