Patent number: 6212244Abstract: A two-step automatic-gain-control (AGC) loop for use with a receiver. An AGC amplifier amplifies a received signal. From an output signal from the AGC amplifier, a received-signal-strength-indicator (RSSI) circuit generates an RSSI signal proportional to a received-signal-power level of the received signal. An RSSI-mapping circuit has an RSSI-mapping table. From the RSSI signal, the RSSI-mapping circuit, using the RSSI-mapping table, generates an AGC signal. An AGC-storing circuit stores the AGC signal. The AGC amplifier uses the stored-AGC signal to adjust the AGC gain. A converter circuit converts the output signal from the AGC amplifier to an in-phase component and a quadrature-phase component at a processing frequency. The error circuit determines an error signal from the in-phase component and the quadrature-phase component.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1998Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignees: Golden Bridge Technology, Inc., Seiko Epson Corp.Inventors: Sorin Davidovici, Emmanuel Kanterakis, Izumi Iida, Norio Hama, Nobuhiko Kenmochi

Patent number: 5986513Abstract: A phase locked loop circuit employing a single phase detector provides limited maximum lock time by avoiding hang-up. The circuit first establishes a gross indication of phase relation sufficient to establish a direction of phase shift away from the unstable equilibrium point. The phase is then shifted by a predetermined value to establish a bounded phase relation exclusive of the unstable equilibrium point and inclusive of the stable equilibrium point. Conventional phase locking then provides the desired frequency and phase relation, but without potential for hang-up.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1990Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignees: Elko Corp., Seiko Epson CorpInventors: Bruce C. Patent number: 5967678Abstract: The present invention provides a tape printing device for printing a desirable series of characters on a tape and cutting the tape to a label of a desirable length, and also a tape cartridge used in the tape printing device. The tape cartridge has a characteristic element readably storing specific information on the tape such as a width of the tape. The tape printing device reads the characteristic element to control printing conditions according to the type of the tape cartridge. More specifically, the tape printing device determines a variety of parameters including a number of lines and character sizes of the character series printed on the tape as well as lengths of left and right margins. When a tape of a relatively large width is set in the tape cartridge, the device increases a rotation torque of a platen for feeding the tape.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignees: Seiko Epson Corp., King Jim Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masahiko Nunokawa, Kenji Watanabe

Patent number: 5852456Abstract: A plate assembly for ink-jet-type printing head assures a smooth ink flow and prohibits fluctuation in ink discharge quantity and speed to realize a satisfactory printing quality. A plurality of plates are bonded each other by using a thermoplastic-resin intermediate sheet having a shape corresponding to the opposite surfaces of adjacent plates. The intermediate sheet has ink passage openings of a dimension which includes a reference contour which is an axial projection of a corresponding opening in the plate. The ink passage opening in the intermediate sheet has a periphery which is set-back from the reference contour by a predetermined amount in the reference direction connecting adjacent ink passage openings, and by an increased amount in other directions. The plates and the intermediate sheet are superimposed one above the other and subsequently heated under pressure to form an integral plate assembly.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1994Date of Patent: December 22, 1998Assignees: NGK Insulators, Ltd., Seiko Epson Corp.Inventors: Shigeki Okada, Natsumi Shimogawa, Nobou Takahashi

Patent number: 5796129Abstract: A master slice type gate array has a plurality of block areas. Each block area includes a plurality of basic cells arranged in a matrix. Different block areas have transistors with different channel widths. Within each of the block areas, a plurality of basic cells are connected to one another through a wiring layer to form function cells. First layer wirings for the function cells are completed within an area between rows of power source wirings Vdd and Vss of the first layer in the transverse direction. Contacts for connecting the sources and drains of P- and N-channel type MOS transistors to the first layer wirings are arranged in rows. Even if the channel widths are changed, the position of the contacts for forming the function cells and the wiring pattern remain unchanged for every block. Therefore, the master slice type gate array can be optimized for various performance parameters such as speed, integration, power consumption and other factors.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1994Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: Seiko Epson Corp.Inventor: Masao Mizuno

Patent number: 5682148Abstract: A paging system repeatedly broadcast each message and associates a sequential message number with each paging message. The message number in each message serves two functions. First, the message number is used to determine if the same message was previously received and second, when a subscriber reviews the messages, missing messages can be readily detected by skipped message numbers. All messages that are transmitted are also stored at a clearinghouse and a subscriber can telephone the clearinghouse facility and request that particular missed messages be retransmitted or given by voice response over the telephone.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1995Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignees: Seiko Corporation, Seiko Epson Corp.Inventors: Garold B. Patent number: 5555027Abstract: There is disclosed a video processor capable of arbitrarily expanding or contracting an image in a vertical direction. A horizontal synchronizing signal HS of a video signal CS is inputted to a reference input terminal 63a of a phase comparator 63 of a PLL circuit 62 to take out a clock signal CK having a frequency N1 times larger than that of the horizontal synchronizing signal HS. This clock signal is frequency-divided by N2. Since N2 is set to the number of horizontal synchronizing signals within a vertical synchronous period, the number of sampling lines in a vertical direction becomes equal to N1. Accordingly, when an output signal (line clock signal LCK) of the frequency divider 67 is used as a signal for increment of a vertical address of a video memory 70, enlargement/contraction of an image can be carried out by changing N1.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1995Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Assignee: Seiko Epson Corp.Inventor: Kesatoshi Takeuchi
