  • Patent number: 11326637
Abstract: A fastener has a generally cylindrical shank and a driver at a first end of the shank. The shank has a thread having a first side and a second side opposed to the first side. The first and second sides form a compound angle between the shank and an apex where the first and second sides meet. The compound angle is formed by a body portion extending along the first and second sides from the shank to an intersection, and a crest portion extending along the first and second sides from the intersection to the apex. The first and second sides in the body portion form a body angle with respect to each other, and the first and second sides in the crest portion form a crest angle with respect to each other. The crest angle is greater than the body angle.

  • Patent number: 10598205
Abstract: A fastening device for reducing the time required for insertion that includes an elongated shank portion extending longitudinally between a first and a second shank end; and a head portion arranged at the second shank end, wherein the head portion includes a drive arrangement configured and arranged for receiving a rotary driving force to drive the fastening device into at least one workpiece. The elongated shank portion includes a plurality of intertwined helical ridges (plural thread starts). Preferably, the tip portion is configured and arranged to create a hole and threads by softening the material of a workpiece. Additionally, a method for creating an assembly by attaching a first workpiece to a second workpiece via the use of such a fastening device.

  • Patent number: 5242253
Abstract: A thread-forming screw includes a tapered end portion formed by inserting a cylindrical blank between paired dies each having a straight portion and a tapered portion. The threads of each die are provided with undulations along their lengths corresponding to the circumference of the screw blank so as to form a trilobular thread on the screw which spirals around its circumference from one end of the screw to the other in a direction opposite to that of the threads. The cylindrical blank provides increased material at the tapered thread-forming location for forming fully crested threads, while increasing the length of the tapered portion of the die and screw provides greater stress relief for reducing the force required for thread formation and allows the screw to be driven into a workpiece more easily while maintaining a high strip force.

  • Patent number: 4304503
Abstract: A double ended stud fastening assembly with coaxially disposed stud shanks separated by an outwardly projecting rigid flange. The first shank includes a helical thread formed thereon in one direction and the second stud shank includes a helical thread formed thereon in a direction opposite the direction of the thread on the first shank. The surfaces of the rigid flange adjacent the first and second shank are substantially planar with the flange body extending perpendicular to the axis of the shanks so that when the second stud shank is mounted in a workpiece a subsequent attachment member placed over the first stud shank will be held in place by a nut.
