    Abstract: A surveillance camera and image data storage system is disclosed. The system includes surveillance cameras that generate image data. Each of the surveillance cameras calculates a self priority value for uploading the image data and sends its self priority value over a local network to the other surveillance cameras. Within each surveillance camera, a rules engine compares its self priority value and the self priority values from the other surveillance cameras to determine whether to upload the image data over the network to a remote storage system or to save the image data within each surveillance camera. This functions as an arbitration system implemented at the level of the individual cameras to arbitrate uploading of the image data, which limits network bandwidth. In another example, each surveillance camera calculates its self priority value in response to receiving security events from other security devices over a network.

An access controller controls access control readers, which in turn enable access to a building and/or interior areas of the building. The access controller can identify the locations of the access control readers relative to the building, such as whether the access control readers are located on the perimeter of the building for controlling access to the building, or whether the access control readers are located within the building for controlling access to interior areas of the building. The access controller can then place one or more of the access control readers into a power saving state without compromising overall building security, such as placing interior access control readers into a power saving state when the building is assessed to be unoccupied.

    Abstract: A system and method of designating regions of interest for surveillance cameras is disclosed. The system enables definition of regions of interest simultaneously across multiple cameras. This is useful when the cameras are positioned to monitor the same region of interest within their scenes. Each camera monitors image data for designation of regions of interest, stores the regions of interest, and analyzes the image data from the cameras based on the regions of interest. Preferably, each camera has an integrated analytics system for analyzing the image data based on the regions of interest. A setup process between a user device (e.g. mobile phone) and the cameras enables definition of the regions of interest. In embodiments, the regions of interest are defined in response to the cameras tracking either the user device or an optical device as an operator moves the devices to outline the regions of interest within the scene.
