Patent number: 5360898Abstract: A method for making a rare earth metal salt of an organic acid, for example neodymium naphthenate, is provided. The method includes the steps of producing a three-phase system which comprises an aqueous phase in which is dissolved a salt of a rare earth metal or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt, a solid water-insoluble rare earth compound suspended in the aqueous phase, and an organic phase containing the organic acid. The organic acid is allowed to distribute between the organic and aqueous phases, react with the dissolved inorganic salt and release an inorganic acid. This leads to some of the water-insoluble rare earth compound becoming dissolved in the aqueous phase and reacting with the organic acid to form a rare earth metal salt of the organic acid. The rare earth metal salt of the organic acid is allowed to transfer to the organic phase from whence it is recovered.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1993Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: Sentrachem LimitedInventors: Amor Jordaan, Petrus J. Patent number: 4904374Abstract: A method of selectively recovering an arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite or like mineral from a material containing such a mineral and pyrite which includes the steps of providing a slurry of the material, adding a dialkyl (C.sub.3-8)-dithiophosphate to the slurry, passing a gas through the slurry to cause the mineral to be carried to the surface of the slurry and report in a first float concentrate, removing this concentrate from the slurry, activating the mineral remaining in the slurry by adding a suitable water-soluble copper salt to the slurry, adding a monoalkyl (C.sub.3-10)-dithiocarbamate to the slurry, passing a gas through the slurry to cause mineral to be carried to the surface of the slurry and form a second float concentrate, removing the second concentrate from the slurry and combining the first and the second float concentrates.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1988Date of Patent: February 27, 1990Assignee: Sentrachem LimitedInventors: Haimi N. Patent number: 4769324Abstract: The invention is directed to the production of ethanol by the fermentation of molasses in the presence of the yeasts S. cerevisiae and Schwanniomyces castellii (R69), which is capable of growing and producing amylase in a molasses-containing meduim. The amylase converts starch and higher sugars in the unfermentable component of the medium to a hexose sugar which is converted to ethanol by S. cerevisiae.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1985Date of Patent: September 6, 1988Assignee: Sentrachem LimitedInventors: Theresa D. Mackintosh, Ana P. Quintela

Patent number: 4732666Abstract: A process for recovering phosphate values from a finely divided ore containing the phosphate values and gangue such as an ore containing apatite, calcite and dolomite, by froth flotation includes the steps of suspending the finely divided ore containing the phosphate values and the gangue in a liquid at a pH of greater than 7; adding to the suspension a froth flotation collector comprising a tall oil fatty acid and an emulsifier for the tall oil fatty acid selected from alkylphenylalkoxylates having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: n is an integer from 8-10 inclusive;m is an integer from 10-20 inclusive; andalkyl is --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 -- or ##STR2## the froth flotation collector comprising 80-99% by weight of the collector of the tall oil fatty acid and 20 to 1% by weight of the collector of the emulsifier; introducing a gas such as air into the liquid to produce a froth containing the phosphate values and leaving suspended the other solid gangue; and recovering the phosphate values.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1986Date of Patent: March 22, 1988Assignee: Sentrachem LimitedInventors: Jacobus C. Patent number: 4657669Abstract: The invention concerns the use of 5-hydroxy-3-thiazolidine-2-thiones of the structure I ##STR1## where R.sub.1 =(CHOH).sub.m, R.sub.2 =(CHOH).sub.n where (m+n)=0 to 6, and R.sub.3 is alkyl or hydroxy-alkyl as depressants in the flotation of mixtures of base metal minerals, particularly those containing molybdenum, copper, lead, zinc; and to flotation processes using these compounds.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1985Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Sentrachem LimitedInventors: Peter Shaw, Jan Coetzee

Patent number: 4528166Abstract: The invention concerns the concentration or recovery of gold or silver from cyanide liquors containing either or both of them by contacting the liquors with activated carbon in order to load it with Au(CN).sub.2.sup.- or Ag(CN).sub.2.sup.- according to the particular isotherm, removing the loaded carbon and treating it with hydronium or metal cations or molecular complexes in order to convert the Au(CN).sub.2.sup.- and Ag(CN).sub.2.sup.- to insoluble AuCN or AgCN and then recycling the thus treated carbon to contact further liquor, whereby the loading of the activated carbon is far in excess of that possible by conventional reversible loading and recovery of such precious metals by converting them to reversibly loaded AuCN and AgCN which desorb down to their limits set by their respective equilibrium adsorption isotherms.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1983Date of Patent: July 9, 1985Assignee: Sentrachem LimitedInventor: Gloria McDougall
