Abstract: A perforation tool comprises an explosive charge comprising an explosive focal axis, a tool body containing the explosive charge, and a flowable material carried with the tool and disposed along the explosive focal axis. The flowable material is configured to be released by detonation of the explosive charge and flow to create at least a partial barrier to flow through the aperture in response to the perforation of the tool body by the explosive charge to form an aperture in the tool body.

Abstract: A control circuit for a coiled tubing injector includes a circuit controller (14). One or more counterbalance vales (3) may be responsive to the circuit controller to prevent the tubing string from descending into the wellbore during rate of penetration movement. In one embodiment, a control valve (4) allows fluid to flow through a bypass line around the counterbalance valves when drilling in a weight-on-bit mode. Other hydraulic control circuits allow for the release of fluid pressure to control the injector hydraulic motor. In yet another embodiment, the control circuit regulates power to an electric motor of the injector.

Abstract: Various embodiments include apparatus and methods of determining resistivity of fluids downhole in a well. The apparatus and methods may include using a sensor that employs a focused electric dipole as a transmitter and a uses a receiver to detect the electric current strength in the fluid under measurement responsive to the transmitter. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are various embodiments of methods and systems for determining the orientation and direction of first motion of a fault or fracture by optimizing an azimuthally-dependent attribute of signals generated by microseismic sources, comprising: recording microseismic data traces using a of sensors located at a plurality of sensor positions; subdividing the subsurface volume into spatial volumes corresponding to selected time intervals and comprising a plurality of voxels; for each voxel, applying a time shift to the microseismic data traces that is substantially equal to a travel time from each voxel to the corresponding sensor position, and determining for the voxel the orientation and direction of first motion of the fault or fracture corresponding to a maximum value for the voxel of at least one azimuthally-dependent attribute of the microseismic data traces.

Abstract: Electronic modeling of long-term historical financial credit performance of a consumer is described. A plurality of historical time periods originating from an observation point in time occurring in the past are established and a plurality of past credit performance snapshots for a sample consumer population are obtained. A credit risk management computer system computes a credit quality index for each of the past credit performance snapshots of the sample population and for a recent credit performance snapshot of the consumer. An overall credit quality index for the sample population spanning the plurality of historical time periods is likewise computed and a prediction of an overall credit quality index for the consumer spanning the plurality of historical time periods is made.

Abstract: A battery and method of making such battery, adapted to operate at low (typically ambient) temperatures for a short initial period and thereafter at higher temperatures. A Li—Mg alloy anode is provided, comprising up to 25% magnesium, in a liquid thionyl chloride bath which as the cathode for high temperature operation. A thin, substantially pure lithium layer is applied to a surface of the Li—Mg anode, preferably in the range of 0.0019 to 0.0025 inches (0.04826-0.0635 mm), to allow obtaining of sufficiently high power and voltage output at lower temperatures for a short period where at such lower temperatures the required voltage and power would not otherwise be available from a Li—Mg anode. Thereafter, the battery may thereafter be used in, and exposed to, higher temperatures of up to 220° C. where at such temperatures the necessary voltage and power from the remaining Li—Mg alloy anode is then available.

Sponsors include companies and organizations interested in offering purchase incentives to their customers. An individual who wishes to receive a spending vehicle rather than the regular payment selects the spending vehicle he or she would like to receive. The individual then assigns his or her right to receive the payment to a third party. The third party then arranges to give a spending vehicle to the individual and to transfer the individual's payment to the sponsor of the spending vehicle. The third party may take a portion of the payment as compensation for the service.

For each of the plurality of accounts, an order for a first quantity of checks for the account may be generated. The order may comprise an account number and contact information. For each of the plurality of accounts, a portion of the first quantity of checks for the account that has been processed may be monitored. Also, an indication of a threshold quantity of checks may be received. Further, it may be determined when the portion of the first quantity of checks that has been processed exceeds the threshold quantity of the first quantity of checks. For each of the plurality of accounts, when the portion of the first quantity of checks that has been processed exceeds the threshold quantity, an order for a second quantity of checks for the account may be generated.

Abstract: A weather alert manager is used to provide real-time, site specific information to a user regarding weather and possibly other hazards. The weather alert manager compares meteorological data, a user profile including information on points of interest to the user, and geographical data to determine if weather will impact one or more of the user's points of interest. The user's points of interest include at least one mobile point of interest, which periodically transmits its location. The weather alert manager transmits a user alert message if one is needed, and a remote receiver notifies the user that a message has been received.

Abstract: Systems and methods are configured to manage data sets associated with a financial transaction instrument. For example, a method is provided for facilitating the management of data sets on a financial transaction instrument that is issued by an issuer. The method includes the steps of: adding, by a first owner, a first data set to the financial transaction instrument, wherein the first data set is owned by a first owner; adding, by a second owner, a second data set to the financial transaction instrument, wherein the second data set is owned by a second owner; and storing the first data set and the second data set on the financial transaction instrument. The first and second data sets may each be stored as a Block of Binary. Furthermore, the first data set may be updated and/or deleted from the financial transaction instrument.

Abstract: A method of performing high throughput magnetic sensing of one or more samples. The method comprises selecting a first sample having a first bulk magnetic susceptibility, selecting an assay plate having a second bulk magnetic susceptibility matched to the first bulk magnetic susceptibility, the assay plate including multiple wells, introducing the first sample into a plurality of the wells, and performing magnetic sensing on the plurality of wells containing the first sample. Assay plates, caps, kits, and other devices and methods relating to high throughput magnetic sensing are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for determining the position of an optic cup boundary in a 2D retinal image. The method includes detecting kinks in blood vessels at an estimated boundary of the optic cup and the optic disc, and determining the position of the optic cup boundary in the 2D retinal image based on the detected kinks. The determined optic cup boundary may be used for determining a CDR which may in turn be used for determining a risk of contracting glaucomatous.

Abstract: Online behavior of users related to a product is captured. Also, offline sales for the product is also captured. Geo-location parameters are also determined for the captured online and offline data. Using the geo-location parameters and captured data for the product, a smallest geo-location parameter of statistical significance for estimating an impact of the online behavior on offline sales is determined.
