Patent number: 9852379Abstract: Systems and methods described herein utilize supervised machine learning to generate a figure-of-speech prediction model for classify content words in a running text as either being figurative (e.g., as a metaphor, simile, etc.) or non-figurative (i.e., literal). The prediction model may extract and analyze any number of features in making its prediction, including a topic model feature, unigram feature, part-of-speech feature, concreteness feature, concreteness difference feature, literal context feature, non-literal context feature, and off-topic feature, each of which are described in detail herein. Since uses of figure of speech in writings may signal content sophistication, the figure-of-speech prediction model allows scoring engines to further take into consideration a text's use of figure of speech when generating a score.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2015Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: Educational Testing ServiceInventors: Beata Beigman Klebanov, Chee Wee Leong, Michael Flor, Michael Heilman

Patent number: 9851043Abstract: A crack arrestor apparatus and method for making same by applying layers of a composite material of non-metallic fibers and resin around a length of pipe; the fibers generally aligned with the pipe circumference. The applied layers have a thicker portion in the middle and a thinner portion on the ends. Part of the pipe covered by the thicker portion is then yielded by application of radial force past the elastic limit of the pipe, thereby creating circumferential tension on the composite. At least a portion of the composite remains in circumferential tension upon release of the radial force. The residual stresses in the yielded metal pipe assist to arrest crack propagation. Thereby, the process to arrest a crack in a metal pipe includes maintaining circumferential tension in a composite residing around the pipe while maintaining compressive circumferential residual stress on the metal pipe covered by the composite.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2016Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: Stress Engineering Services, Inc.Inventor: Richard C. Patent number: 9853868Abstract: Cloud computing has emerged as an extremely popular implementation option for a wide range of computing services. However, provisioning services into the cloud is an extremely difficult technical challenge. This is due in part to the regular emergence of new cloud service providers, as well as the routine changing and reconfiguration of the disparate computing platforms, services, assets, supported technical components, and other features offered by the service providers. An analysis architecture determines how to map a particular technical component into the execution environment of any particular service provider.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2015Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: Accenture Global Services LimitedInventors: Patrick Francis Cimprich, Michael Gerald DeLuca, Jack Q.
