  • Patent number: 5605239
Abstract: A one-piece dunnage bar for a dunnage rack of the type used to store and transport parts within an automotive factory. The dunnage bar includes integral inner and outer C-shaped portions roll-formed from a single piece of structural metal. The inner and outer portions each include overlying wall segments that cooperate to define the mouth of the C shape. The thickness of each of these wall segments is one-half of the thickness of the remainder of the walls so that the pancaked wall segments have a combined thickness approximately the same as that of the remaining walls.

  • Patent number: 5584624
Abstract: Specification discloses a dunnage bar for a dunnage rack of the type used to store and transport parts within an automotive factory. The dunnage bar includes an outer C-shaped bar and an inner T-shaped bar both roll-formed from structural metal. The inner bar is closely received within and spot-welded to the outer bar. The stem of the inner bar engages the outer bar opposite the mouth and includes spaced webs permitting a welding fixture to be inserted through the mouth and between the webs. The cross arms of the inner bar also engage the outer bar and include spacer webs at their terminal edges to space the inner bar from the mouth of the outer bar.

  • Patent number: 5566874
Abstract: An apparatus for forming an end bumper for vehicles constructed from a single sheet of high-tensile strength steel roll-formed to provide two side-by-side tubular sections. Each section has a front wall, an outer side wall, a rear wall, and an inner side wall, the inner side walls being spaced one from the other and connected together by a web roll-formed integrally with the inner side walls. The front walls each have extended ends overlapping and abutting the web. The extreme ends of the front walls also form an abutting juncture which is welded together and also welded to the web. The bumper has a sweep formed by a sweep-forming mechanism having curvilinear an external guide mechanism and internal mandrels conforming to the outer configuration and inner configuration of the bumper so as to provide a passageway therebetween for receiving the bumper. The bumper is passed through the passageway while the roll-forming of the bumper takes place upstream of the mandrels.

  • Patent number: 5553444
Abstract: A container for a PC card including a relatively hard base pivotably connected by a hinge to a cover. A resilient tray is positioned within the base. The cover can be kept in a closed position by a latch. An outer edge of the tray attaches to a peripheral lip on the base to form a bumper and a seal between the base and cover when the container is closed. The edge also prevents shear movement of the cover relative to the base when the container is dropped on a corner. The hinge and latch are inboard of the outer edge of the tray so that they aren't disturbed if the container is dropped. The tray includes a central receptacle that receives the PC card. Between the PC card receptacle and the outer edge of the tray there is formed a bellows-like member which tangents the cover and base and physically isolates the PC card receptacle from the cover and base.

  • Patent number: 5545361
Abstract: A bumper construction for vehicles constructed of a single strip of metal roll-formed into a completely enclosed tubular member in which a foamed-in-place material is located in and completely fills only a central section of the tubular member a relatively short distance on each side of the central axis of the vehicle. An apparatus is provided for manufacturing roll-formed bumpers partially filled with a foam-in-place material, the bumpers including material defining a continuous closed section defining an open interior and opposing open ends. The apparatus includes a turntable with a plurality of holders including arms shaped to extend partially into the bumpers, and a plug on the end of each arm configured to block off the open interior of the bumper. The holders are pivotally mounted on the turntable so that a bumper can be slipped onto a selected holder, pivoted to an upright position, and then rotated by the turntable under an injector for dispensing foamable reaction injectable urethane (RIM) material.

  • Patent number: 5449335
Abstract: A system for exercising a user's midsection muscles. The system includes a spotting fixture having a base, side frame members and a central vertical member arranged in a tripod configuration. C-shape arms are supported atop the side frame members and central vertical member. The C-shape arms partially wrap around the user who stands on the base. At each end of the C-shape arms are swivel mounted mechanical hands that engage the hip or waist area of the user, thus holding the user's lower body immobile during the exercise routine. The mechanical hands adjust laterally into and out of slots formed in the C-shape arms as well as adjust vertically with telescoping lateral frame members. Free weights such as a twisting baton can be held by the user to increase the exertion level during the exercise regime. A receptacle located in the base allows storage of the free weight or twisting baton.

  • Patent number: 5340177
Abstract: A rear step bumper is provided for a vehicle. The bumper is roll-formed into a tubular shape and includes a top wall, a bottom wall, an inner wall, and an outer wall, and further includes ends and an intermediate section. The outer wall is sheared from the top wall and the bottom wall in the intermediate section, and also sheared transversely so as to form opposing panels, which opposing panels are bent toward the inner wall into engagement with the inner wall and secured to the inner wall. The opposing panels reinforce the tubular member in the intermediate section to maintain the structural integrity of the bumper, and further are integrally formed from material in the tubular member to facilitate manufacture and reduce costs. The method of manufacture is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5310053
Abstract: A CD package including a CD holder and a foldable cover for the holder. The CD holder includes a tray and base in telescoping relationship, one of the tray and base being glued to the foldable cover. The CD holder includes edge projections and recesses which cooperate with edge projections and recesses of other CD holders to allow stacking of the CD holders to facilitate automated assembly. The base and tray also include ramped stops and cooperating projections, respectively, inward of the sides, to releasably lock the tray and base in the telescoped and untelescoped positions. Tabs are provided on the sides of the base to abut the tray and improve stability of the base relative to the tray in the untelescoped configuration. A transparent window is assembled on an end cap via a tongue and groove connection and then welded. Detents are added adjacent a recess formed on each side wall of the end cap, which recesses cooperate with a projection on the tray to connect the cap and tray.
