Abstract: Plasticizer composition for a construction polymers. The plasticizer composition includes 35-65% (by weight) of polyvinylbutyral and 65-35% (by weight) of one or more alloying copolymers. The construction polymer is e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, poly urethane, acryl butadiene styrene or polyethylene and/or mixtures thereof. The resulting polymer construction polymer constitutes 25-90% by weight and the plasticizer composition constitutes 10-75% by weight of the polymer blend composition. The components of the plasticizer composition are non-migrating and provide surprising physical properties of the final polymer composition.
Abstract: A method and a PVB cleaning and/or upgrading system for cleaning and upgrading post-consumer and/or post-industrial polyvinyl butyral is provided. The system includes an extraction station for extraction with liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide. The extraction station comprises a sealable container with means for introducing pressurized liquid carbon dioxide into the container and means for stirring PVB material. The station further includes transfer means for transferring the pressurized liquid carbon dioxide containing extracted plasticizer and/or contaminants from the container to a distillation unit. The distillation unit separates extracted plasticizer and/or contaminants from the carbon dioxide, by evaporation of the liquefied CO2. The system further includes pressurizing means, such as a compressor, for pressurizing and liquefying of the CO2 evaporated in the distillation unit.
Abstract: A method for treating surfaces of cement, concrete, mortar or floor screed or stone, marble or granite by applying at least one layer of a composition comprising of 2-20% by weight of particles of plasticized polyvinyl butyral (PVB) dispersed in water in an amount of 100 g/m2-600 g/m2. This ensures that the surfaces exhibit improved resistance to wear and reduced creation of dust during wear, i.e., a dust binding effect is achieved and protects the surfaces from being stained. The application of the aqueous PVB dispersion provides improved adhesion of conventional top coatings, such as epoxy or polyurethane (PU) based resins and results in a brighter surface on the treated surfaces. A composition and uses are also disclosed.
