Patent number: 6331977Abstract: A System On Chip (SOC) has been provided which includes a crossbar switch between 64 functional I/Os internal to the chip, and 40 external connection pins. The crossbar switch permits a signal at any of the 64 functional I/Os to appear at any of the connector pins. The cross bar switch, permitting signals at the 40 connector pins to appear at any of the 64 specified functional I/Os. Because the switching is done with 4-way switches, the total number of hierarchical switch layers is reduced to 3. A parallel, opposite oriented, network of switches permits input signals delivered to the physical I/Os to be switched to any of the 64 functional I/Os. The small number of switch layers permit connections to be made with a minimum of delay across the switch. A method corresponding to the above-described crossbar switch system is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1998Date of Patent: December 18, 2001Assignees: Sharp Electronics Corporation, Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Dieter Spaderna, Michael Roberts, Raed Sabha

Patent number: 6304887Abstract: A DSP system is provided for performing FFT computations with low latency by parallel processing of complex data points through a plurality of butterfly FFT execution units. The system simplifies the circuitry required by employing a single address generator for all of the memory units coupled to like ports on each execution unit. All RAM's connected to, for example, the A ports of a plurality of DSP's will be addressed by a single address generator. Similarly, all RAM's connected to the B ports of a plurality of DSP's will be addressed by a single address generator. Simple one-port RAM memory is suitable for use with the invention.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1998Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignees: Sharp Electronics Corporation, Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Chwen-Jye Ju, Steven B. Patent number: 6051995Abstract: A low noise CMOS buffer has been provided which includes the advantages of having a stable load impedance and a linear-ramped current waveform at the output. The buffer adds waveform shaping transistors to delay the turn on of the driver circuits, and to shape the voltage and current waveforms of the drivers. These critically placed waveform shaping transistors accomplish the function of turning off the drivers in a manner to encourage an opposite polarity linear ramp current waveform at the buffer output. A method of using waveform shaping transistors to form a stable output impedance and a linear-ramped current waveform at the output of a buffer is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1998Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignees: Sharp Electronics Corporation, Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Robert Gary Pollachek

Patent number: 6029242Abstract: A system and method is provided for use in register-based CPUs for simultaneously processing data in a series of CPU register banks while concurrently loading and unloading data into additional register banks. The register banks then sequentially shared between arithmetic processors connected to the CPU datapath. Each register bank, after being loaded with data, is connected to a plurality of data processors in sequence and the data in each register bank is processed. The data is not moved between register banks within the datapath, except when it is loaded and unloaded from the datapath. The invention takes advantage of the shorter time required to move control signals, as compared with moving data.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1997Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignees: Sharp Electronics Corporation, Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Steven B. Patent number: 5245536Abstract: A portable electronic financial calculator and planner displays all the variables associated with the financial problem to be calculated on one screen to enable the user to more efficiently input numeric information corresponding to the various variables of the desired financial calculation. To display all the variables in common English terms, the portable financial calculator and planner has separated the financial problems into separate applications which enables this device to display variables distinct to the selected problem. This portable financial calculator and planner includes a display panel having at least eight lines of multi-digit display units. The portable electronic financial calculator and planner also has an input device which allows the operator to input numeric information into the fields corresponding to the known variables of the financial problem by allowing the user to utilize a movable cursor which is capable of moving from field to field.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1989Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Sharp Electronics CorporationInventor: William Hsieh
