Abstract: A control apparatus comprises: a job processing section for acquiring, on input of selection application information into a multi-functional apparatus, setting condition corresponding to the selection application information from the multi-functional apparatus, and carrying out predetermined data processing corresponding to the setting condition; a job result transmission section for outputting to the multi-functional apparatus a process result given by the job processing section; and a display switch-over determining section for controlling the multi-functional apparatus to enable the multi-functional apparatus to accept input of a user ID and selection application information from another user during the data processing by the job processing section. In this way, the present invention realizes a multi-functional apparatus control system capable of accepting a job from a user when another user is using the application program.
Abstract: A transflective liquid crystal display (70) comprises a liquid crystal cell (38) disposed between a front substrate (40) and a rear substrate (36), a front polarizer (46) located in front of the front substrate (40) and a rear polarizer (32) located behind the rear substrate (36), a front retarder (42, 44) located between the front substrate (40) and the front polarizer (46), a rear retarder (62, 64) located between the rear substrate (36) and the rear polarizer (32), and a light source (30) located behind the rear polarizer (32). A transflective display having a number of differently colored sequentially flashing backlights is also provided.
Abstract: A nitride semiconductor light emitting device includes a first coat film of aluminum nitride or aluminum oxynitride formed at a light emitting portion and a second coat film of aluminum oxide formed on the first coat film. The thickness of the second coat film is at least 80 nm and at most 1000 nm. Here, the thickness of the first coat film is preferably at least 6 nm and at most 200 nm.
Abstract: In the present invention, after an image mail is transmitted to a receiving-end machine (S1, S2), when a reception error occurs, an image format of image data in the image mail is altered, and the image mail including this image data (retransmission image mail) is retransmitted to the receiving-end machine (S3 through S13). That is, it is attempted to avoid the occurrence of the communication error due to the image format, by altering the image format of the image data and retransmitting the same. With this arrangement, it is possible to avoid successive occurrence of the communication errors, even if the transmission data is retransmitted. Thus, as compared to the arrangements in which retransmission is not carried out at all or identical transmission data is retransmitted, the present arrangement can improve the efficiency of data transmission.
Abstract: A unit drawing mechanism according to the present invention includes a drawing unit, a lever, a fixture, a preventer, a linkage, and a lever holder. The drawing unit can move along a movement path between a retracted position in an apparatus and an exposed position outside the apparatus. The lever is supported pivotably on the front side of the drawing unit. The fixture locks the drawing unit in the retracted position. The preventer prevents the drawing unit from moving from the exposed position. The linkage links the lever to the fixture and the preventer. The lever holder holds the lever in a first angular position, a second angular position, and a third angular position when the drawing unit is locked by the fixture, positioned on the movement path, and prevented by the preventer from moving from the exposed position, respectively.
Abstract: A light guide plate has a light exit plane and a light entrance plane arranged on the periphery of the light exit plane. Light incident on the light entrance plane is outputted from the light exit plane. The light entrance plane includes a plurality of first end surfaces and a plurality of second end surfaces protruding in an external direction beyond the first end surfaces in plan view. The first end surfaces and the second end surfaces are alternately arranged along the periphery of the light exit plane.

Abstract: The object is to decrease the size of an entire backlight device including an inverter circuit board and the cost for producing the backlight device. The backlight device includes a lamp (20a), an inverter circuit that generates a drive voltage for driving the lamp (20a) from an inputted voltage, a socket section (26a) that holds an end part of the lamp (20a) and applies the drive voltage to an electrode lead (28a) led out from the end part of the lamp (20a), and a metal chassis (31). The socket section (26a) has a dielectric (dielectric unit 32) between a flat part of the electrode lead (28a) of the lamp (20a) and the metal chassis (31). The electrode lead (28a), the dielectric (dielectric unit 32) and the metal chassis (31) function as a resonant capacitor of an output transformer of the inverter circuit.
Abstract: There are provided a storage device and a computer-readable medium capable of efficiently storing keywords contained in description information and efficiently retrieving the keyword. A list producing portion (6) extracts the keywords from the description information and produces a keyword list correlating the keywords with the scene information containing the keywords. A description information converter (8) converts the keywords contained in the keyword list received from the list producing portion (6) among the keywords contained in the externally received description information into reference information for specifying the keywords in the keyword list received from the list producing portion (6). Abstract: The invention relates to a liquid crystal display utilizing a vertically aligned state of liquid crystal molecules when no voltage is applied and to a method of manufacturing the same. The invention is aimed at providing a liquid crystal display and a method of manufacturing the same in which the existing step for forming vertical alignment films can be omitted to achieve a cost reduction. The liquid crystal display includes a monofunctional monomer having a structure expressed by X-R (where X represents an acrylate group or a methacrylate group, and R represents an organic group having a steroid skeleton). A liquid crystal material is sandwiched between substrates which is then irradiated with ultraviolet rays to cure the monofunctional monomer, thereby forming a polymer film at an interface of a substrate. The monofunctional monomer has a hydrophobic skeleton such as an alkyl chain and a photoreactive group on one side of the skeleton.
Abstract: There is provided a liquid crystal display device which can easily be made thin and which is capable of high-quality displaying, as well as a mobile electronic device having the same. A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes: a first substrate; a second substrate disposed so as to be closer to a viewer than the first substrate is; a liquid crystal layer provided therebetween; and a linear light source provided by a side of the first substrate, the linear light source emitting light toward a side face of the first substrate. The first substrate includes a selective reflection layer for selectively reflecting light of a specific polarization state, and the linear light source includes a point light source and a linear light guiding member for guiding light emitted from the point light source to the side face of the first substrate.
Abstract: A silicon/germanium (SiGe) superlattice thermal sensor is provided with a corresponding fabrication method. The method forms an active CMOS device in a first Si substrate, and a SiGe superlattice structure on a second Si-on-insulator (SOI) substrate. The first substrate is bonded to the second substrate, forming a bonded substrate. An electrical connection is formed between the SiGe superlattice structure and the CMOS device, and a cavity is formed between the SiGe superlattice structure and the bonded substrate.

Abstract: A driving apparatus and a driving method are disclosed that are capable of uniformly lighting each entire fluorescent tube irrespective of the length or number of fluorescent tubes when simultaneously driving a plurality of fluorescent tubes in a fluorescent tube lighting apparatus. When two inverter circuits having respective transformers are provided at both ends of a fluorescent tube to light the fluorescent tube by push-pull driving, feedback windings of transformers not used in self-excited oscillation of each inverter circuit are connected together, with the transformer connection that connects together the feedback windings being either in-phase or in opposite phase, and the method of connection for fluorescent tubes connecting to secondary windings of each transformer can be changed in accordance with that connection method.
Abstract: An optical read/write apparatus causes a read/write light beam from illuminating means to strike only one side of an optical storage medium including stacked data storage layers each of which is readable/writeable separately from the other layers. In this case, the optical read/write apparatus operates so that data is read/written from/into a second data storage layer after fully recording a recordable area of a first data storage layer. Thus, light can be shone with uniform intensity across the substantially entire recordable area of the second data storage layer without using a complex read/write system even under such conditions that the transmittance to light of the first data storage layer in the recordable area may vary depending on whether any data is recorded in the recordable area.

Abstract: A piezo-TFT cantilever microelectromechanical system (MEMS) and associated fabrication processes are provided. The method comprises: providing a substrate, such as glass for example; forming thin-films overlying the substrate; forming a thin-film cantilever beam; and simultaneously forming a TFT within the cantilever beam. The TFT is can be formed least partially overlying a cantilever beam top surface, at least partially overlying a cantilever beam bottom surface, or embedded within the cantilever beam. In one example, forming thin-films on the substrate includes: selectively forming a first layer with a first stress level; selectively forming a first active Si region overlying the first layer; and selectively forming a second layer overlying the first layer with a second stress level. The thin-film cantilever beam is formed from the first and second layers, while the TFT source/drain (S/D) and channel regions are formed from the first active Si region.

Abstract: An output pulse of a flip flop is delayed in a delay inverter circuit before supplied to an input terminal of a level shifter. Then, an output pulse of the next stage flip flop is supplied to a reset terminal of the first flip flop and also to an enable terminal of the level shifter. Further, the level shifter output a sampling pulse with a beginning end equal to the beginning end of the pulse supplied to the input terminal and a terminal and equal to the beginning and of the pulse supplied to the enable terminal. With this arrangement, the subject invention provides a pulse output circuit, a driving circuit for a display device using the pulse output circuit, a display device and a pulse output method, that reduce delay of the terminal end of the pulse in sequentially outputting pulses from plural output terminals.
Abstract: A door opening and closing mechanism in which a door to be attached to a body having an opening is separated from, and made in contact with the periphery of the opening so that the opening is opened and closed, is provided with: a handle that is shaft-supported on the door and allowed to pivot with an operation portion being held; and a lever member that has a supporting portion that is attached to the door so as to freely pivot thereon, a connecting portion that is connected to the handle so as to freely pivot thereon on the same side as the operation portion with respect to the rotation axis of the handle, and a contact portion that is placed on the side opposite to the connecting portion with respect to the supporting portion, and arranged face to face with the periphery of the opening, and in this structure when the operation portion is pulled, the contact portion is allowed to press the body so that the door is separated from the periphery of the opening with a predetermined distance.
