Patent number: 11945209Abstract: A system for printing on a substrate can comprise a conveyor that is configured to move the substrate along a substrate movement axis. The system can further comprise at least one print head array. Each print head array has a plurality of print heads, each print head having a respective orientation axis. The plurality of print heads can have at least a first print head and a second print head, wherein the orientation axis of the first print head is angularly offset from the orientation axis of the second print head. The first print head can be offset from the second print head along the substrate movement axis.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2022Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Shaw Industries Group, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Odum, James K. Patent number: 11884444Abstract: A system moves items, like containers and/or pallets, through a label printing station. The station has a label printer that prints adhesive labels; and a robot arm terminating at a movable end with a suction pad or vacuum device and sensors. The station has sensors configured to measure a height of the item; and a processor coupled to receive the height of the item, to control the robot arm and label printer, and to receive label information from a server. The processor has a memory containing code that computes desired label positions based on height of the container/pallet. A method of labeling an item includes printing an adhesive label with the label information obtained from a server; receiving the adhesive label on a suction pad or vacuum device attached to a movable end of a robot arm, and determining a first labeling position from measured height of the container/pallet.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2021Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: SHAW INDUSTRIES GROUP, INC.Inventors: Brian Michael Ghere, Timothy David Ralston

Publication number: 20170333912Abstract: Methods for the recycling of carpet are disclosed that produce clean face fiber suitable for industrial use. The methods allow the recovery of face fiber material, for example a polyester or a polyamide, from carpets that includes a face fiber material and a backing material, and include the steps of heating the carpet to a temperature lower than the melting point of the face fiber material, but higher than the initial thermal decomposition temperature of the backing material, for a time and at a temperature sufficient to thermally decompose, pyrolyze, or oxidize at least a portion of the backing material, rendering the backing material friable, that is more friable than the untreated backing; and applying mechanical force to the carpet so as to liberate the friable backing material from the face fiber material.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2017Publication date: November 23, 2017Applicant: Shaw Industries Group, Inc.Inventors: Joseph E. BORK, Stephen C. PASPEK, SR., Alan F. SCHROEDER, William H. HEISE

Publication number: 20140342639Abstract: The invention relates to a device for sanding a predetermined impression into a workpiece. The device has a pattern belt positioned inside the area formed by a sanding belt. A pad is positioned inside the area formed by the pattern belt. A raised pattern is formed on the outer surface of the pattern belt. In use, the pad contacts the pattern belt, urging the raised pattern of the pattern belt to contact the sanding belt. The portion of the sanding belt contacted by the pattern belt is urged toward the workpiece so that the predetermined impression is sanded into the workpiece.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2014Publication date: November 20, 2014Applicant: SHAW INDUSTRIES GROUP, INC.Inventors: ROBERT BRYAN BOGGS, JOSEPH SHANNON MILLER, MICHAEL SCOTT STANDRIDGE, JASON RICHARD SHAW

Publication number: 20140287186Abstract: A deconstructed tufted carpet having an at least partially visible primary backing. In aspects, deconstructed carpet can utilize the primary backing layer as a design element of the overall pattern and styling in order to reduce material use, waste and the ounce weight of the finished carpet and to improve the method of carpet construction. In order to expose the primary backing, at least some yarn can be pulled very low in the pattern areas to expose the primary backing layer. It is contemplated that the primary backing layer can have a color that comprises part of the overall pattern and styling of the carpet.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2014Publication date: September 25, 2014Applicant: Shaw Industries Group, Inc.Inventors: William Mark Dothard, Pamela Managan Rainey
