Patent number: 10136688Abstract: A construction for a glove or other article of clothing for use in hazardous environments is disclosed, comprising a first layer comprising a laminate that includes an inner layer comprising a woven, nonwoven, or knit material, an intermediate layer comprising a barrier to the passage therethrough of liquids that overlies the inner layer, and a thermal layer affixed to and overlying the intermediate layer in at least a portion of a bridge area. The thermal layer is approximately 0.30 mm thick. The construction also includes a second layer attached to and overlying the first layer to form an outer portion for the glove or other article of clothing. The first layer and the second layer combined provides a thermal protection performance (TPP) of at least approximately 75% greater than a reference combination of the first and the second layer that does not include the thermal layer.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2016Date of Patent: November 27, 2018Assignee: SHELBY GROUP INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventor: Thomas G. Patent number: 7784113Abstract: An improved glove construction wherein the trank, forchette and thumb components are stitched together at the outer periphery with the liner outside and a barrier layer inside to form a glove insert system with exterior seams; the insert system is then reversed to place the barrier layer outside, the liner inside and the seams inverted; a primer base is applied along the inverted seams and dried; an adhesive sealant is then applied along the inverted seams and cured. This reversed glove insert is then placed in side of and secured to an outer shell. A method to prevent liquid, chemical and viral ingress to a seam is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2005Date of Patent: August 31, 2010Assignee: Shelby Group International, Inc.Inventors: Thomas G. Patent number: 5349705Abstract: A multi-layer waterproof fireman's glove is disclosed. The inner liner of the glove is sewn to a moisture barrier layer in an inside/out position at tip extension portions that extend from the moisture barrier. The tip extension portions are formed beyond a line of sealing in the moisture barrier layer. The location of the stitches on the moisture barrier layer is thus outside the sealed region surrounding the hand. The moisture barrier layer is then reversed back over the inner liner such that it overlies the inner liner and attachment tabs are applied at each of the fingertips. The attachment tabs are then sewn to the exterior glove layer, which is in an inside/out position during attachment. The exterior glove layer is then reversed back over the moisture barrier/inner liner combination.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1991Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: Shelby Group International Inc.Inventor: Thomas G. Patent number: 4733413Abstract: A glove construction wherein the trank, forchette and thumb piece are stitched together at the outer periphery in the gunn pattern with the liner outside and a water barrier layer inside to form a glove invert with exterior seams; the invert is then reversed to place the barrier layer outside, the liner insert and the seams inverted; an adhesive sealant is then applied along the inverted seams and cured. This reversed glove invert is then placed inside of and secured to an outer shell as of leather.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1987Date of Patent: March 29, 1988Assignee: Shelby Group International, Inc.Inventor: Martin Dykstra
