  • Patent number: 6565157
Abstract: A molded foam spring seat includes a seat cushion having a bottom surface supported by a support frame having an opening therein. A drop-in frame is insertable within the opening, with the drop-in frame including a pair of opposed walls having fastening means thereon. A plurality of compression springs are each detachably extended between the fastening means on the drop-in frame. Each compression spring is in partial compression until compressed downward by a user seated on the seat cushion. Each compression spring resiliently rebounds to partial compression when the seat cushion is not compressed. The seat cushion includes sides tapered inwardly toward a seat cushion upper surface to reduce bulging of each side outwards with repetitive use of the seat cushion, and to minimize wear on the seat cushion sides when other seat cushions and support frames are positioned adjacent, or are stacked on the seat cushion.

  • Patent number: 6406096
Abstract: A chair including a seat assembly having an improved seat spring system to provide a flexible spring backrest frame. A pair of ends of spaced apart backrest frame members are arranged in registry with respective ends of seat support frame members, with each end positioned in spaced apart alignment across a gap from the respective end of each frame member. An elongated shaped flexible spring element spans each gap, with each spring element having opposed ends being extended a distance along each frame member from the gap. Each opposed end is restrained by a first and a second elongated U-shaped holder receptor paired and separately attachable to each opposed end of the spring element. Each holder receptor includes an opening end being faced towards and in alignment with the second holder opening end. The spring element is positioned between each opening end in side-by-side orientation beside the frame members, providing controlled angular range of motion of the backrest frame when moved by a chair occupant.

  • Patent number: 6106061
Abstract: A vertical stacking leg-over-leg ganged chair is attachable side-by-side and includes an upper frame adapted to receive and support a seating platform, and a lower frame supporting the upper frame, and a backrest for supporting a user seated in the chair. The ganged chair includes a front pair of legs angled frontward, and a rear pair of legs angled rearward, each pair connected underneath the lower frame. The right legs are connected to a right frame member, and the left legs to a left frame member, with the left frame member being of a lesser length than the right frame member. In a side-by-side ganged setup, the wider spaced apart right legs of one ganged chair fit over the left legs of a second like chair, forming a single width leg unit on either side of the ganged chairs. Each upper portion of the left legs includes an elongated slot that accepts an elongated lug on the upper portion of each right leg, for connective support when chairs are attached horizontally.

  • Patent number: 5997084
Abstract: A stackable chair is provided which is configured to alter the forward shift of the center of gravity of a stack of the chairs such that a larger number of such chairs can be stacked in a stable stack as compared to a stack of prior art chairs. The stackable chair includes a seat member, a seat back extending from the seat member, a plurality of legs secured to the seat member and a seat pan secured to the bottom of the seat member. The seat member defines a wedge shape and the seat pan is disposed at angle with respect to the seat member. The seat member and the seat pan cooperate to alter the forward shift of the center of gravity to an arcuate path when the chairs are placed in a stack. Further, the seat pan is configured to protect the seat cushion upon which it rests against indentations.
