Abstract: A compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein each R is H or alkyl and W is an optionally substituted unsaturated, cycloalkyl, secondary alkyl, aromatic or heterocyclic group, are useful as plant growth regulators and herbicides. The corresponding 6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-4-ols and 6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]-octan-4-ones are novel intermediates.
Abstract: Barium sulfate scale is dissolved by contacting it with an aqueous solution of: a bicyclic macrocyclic polyether in which the intramolecular cavity or cript is preferentially receptive to the cations of alkaline earth metals, at least a catalytically effective proportion of an alkali metal salt of an organic acid, and enough dissolved alkaline inorganic alkali metal or ammonium compound to provide a solution pH of at least about 8.

Abstract: This invention is directed to an improved method for the work-up of the reaction product from stereospecific polymerization of propylene with Ziegler Type catalysts in a liquid phase polymerization process employing a C.sub.3 reaction medium. The product work-up comprises treatment of the reactor effluent slurry with a small amount of a C.sub.3 or C.sub.4 alkanol and with oxygen or an effective peroxide, followed by washing of the polymer with a C.sub.3 hydrocarbon medium containing a small amount of a C.sub.3 or C.sub.4 alkanol.

Abstract: The sulfur content of off-gases from processes such as the Claus process is treated by catalytically oxidizing the sulfur compounds to sulfur dioxide. By use of specific catalytic materials, low temperatures of reaction and minimal SO.sub.3 formation are achieved.
Abstract: The pyrolysis of hydrocarbons to produce light olefins is accomplished in a reactor-quench system employing a common molten metal medium and forced circulation risers in both the reactor and quench zones.
