Patent number: 4592746Abstract: A device for selectively locking a syringe plunger against longitudinal movement with respect to the syringe barrel includes two interlocking device parts. Each device part has a generally flat body with a generally semi-circular inner perimeter and first and second ends. A ridge extends along the inner perimeter of each half for engaging the syringe plunger when the plunger is rotated to a predetermined angular position. Each interlocking part has mating structures at each end for mating with the other device part and has a flange for retaining the assembled locking device on the syringe barrel. The syringe and locking device are assembled by inserting the plunger in the syringe barrel and then snapping the two device parts together around the proximal end of the syringe barrel.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1985Date of Patent: June 3, 1986Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventors: Richard A. Patent number: 4569764Abstract: A fluid collection device is provided which includes a container for receiving a liquid, such as blood, which is centrifugally separable into relatively light and heavy phases, and a phase partitioning device in the container. The partitioning device includes a bag filled with a thixotropic gel-like sealant having a specific gravity between the specific gravities of the separated light and heavy phases. During centrifugation, the components of the cellular phase cause collapse of the bag and the flow of sealant through an outlet in the bag. The sealant flows to the interface between the two phases during centrifugation and provides a barrier between the separated phases.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1981Date of Patent: February 11, 1986Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventor: Fred E. Patent number: 4562984Abstract: A support for suspending a body fluid drainage bag from a structure includes a generally planar one-piece body having first and second opposed ends including a hanger at the first end to which a drainage bag can be attached. A support arm depends from the second end and is connected via a living hinge to the body, the body, the living hinge and the support arm being of one piece. The support arm is movable from a first position in the plane of the body to a second position perpendicular thereto. The support arm and body include cooperating locking members to lock the support arm in the second position while at the same time removing the load from the living hinge. Patent number: 4540411Abstract: A catheter placement device is provided which includes a catheter, a pair of relatively rotatable valve members connected to the catheter, an elastomeric longitudinally extending tubular member connected between the valve members and twistable in response to relative rotation of the valve members, and an introducer needle extending longitudinally through the tubular member and catheter for introducing the distal end of the catheter into a blood vessel. Predetermined relative rotation between the valve members effects twisting of the tubular member about the needle and closure of the tubular member. A side port may be connected to a valve member for introducing fluid into a patient.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1983Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventor: Raymond O.
