  • Patent number: 11015869
Abstract: A method for reducing molten raw materials, includes placing the raw materials, in a solid or molten state, on an inductively heated bed with coke pieces. The reduced melt that runs off the coke bed is collected and the waste gases are discharged. A coke bed is inwardly limited by a tube-shaped element through which the reaction gases are drawn off via a plurality of draw-off openings in the tube-shaped element. The corresponding device has a reactor for a bed with coke pieces and an induction heater with at least one induction coil. The reactor has a loading opening and a discharge opening for the treated melt. The coke bed is ring-shaped around a tube-shaped element. The material of the tube-shaped element allows inductive coupling to the induction field of the induction coil and it has draw-off openings for drawing off reaction gases from the coke bed.

  • Patent number: 10494508
Abstract: A method produces a molded part from carbon containing carbon fibers in an amount of less than 20% by weight. The method includes comminuting waste parts or scrap parts formed from a carbon fiber-reinforced synthetic material, a carbon fiber reinforced carbon or a carbon fiber reinforced concrete. A mixture is produced from the comminuted product, a binder such as pitch, a carbon material such as coke and optionally one or more additives, wherein the mixture contains less than 20% by weight of fibers. The mixture is molded into a molded part and the molded part is carbonized. Optionally, the molded carbonized part is impregnated with an impregnating agent. Finally and optionally, the molded carbonized part or the molded part impregnated part is graphitized.

  • Patent number: 10377672
Abstract: A method for the production of polygranular graphite bodies including the step of provisioning a mixture including a high-temperature treated anthracite having a high vitrinite content and a petroleum-based needle coke and/or a pitch-based needle coke, and provisioning at least one binder coke precursor. The method also includes the steps of forming a green body from the mixture from the provisioning step, and carbonizing and graphitizing the green body.

  • Patent number: 10244587
Abstract: A carbon-containing nipple has a nipple thread for carbon-containing electrodes. The nipple has an inlet formed in the nipple thread and the inlet is suitable for receiving an adhesive container filled with a curable adhesive. Preferably, the inlet is a groove which runs through the nipple thread in a transverse manner and is undercut at least in sections. A nipple kit contains such a nipple and the adhesive container containing the adhesive for securing a nipple/electrode connection, wherein the adhesive container is disposed in the inlet. The nipple kit can be used in conjunction with a carbon-containing electrode for use in arc furnaces.

  • Patent number: 10051694
Abstract: An electric arc furnace (EAF) including a set of mast hydraulics, a current transformer, a voltage transformer, a legacy control system and a set-point modifier. The legacy control system is in control of the set of mast hydraulics of the EAF, and receives information from the current transformer relative to current being supplied to the EAF and from the voltage transformer relative to voltage being applied to the EAF. The legacy control system using a set of set-points for the control of the set of mast hydraulics, the voltage and the current of the EAF. The set-point modifier communicates with the legacy control system, and executes the steps of: evaluating a cost function of key performance indicators of a previous heat of the EAF, the key performance indicators including electrical energy use and/or electrode consumption; and altering the set of set-points dependent upon the cost function.
