Abstract: An aqueous pharmaceutical composition comprising sodium cromoglicate as an active ingredient and a quaternary ammonium compound such as benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, characterized in that said composition comprises a precipitation inhibitor selected from the group consisting of alkanolamines including 2-aminoethanol and tocopherols including d-.alpha.-tocopherol is provided. The composition has characteristic feature of free from precipitation or turbidity in manufacturing processes and during storage.

Abstract: An instrument for chemical and microbiological tests comprises a sample container for temporarily storing a liquid sample; a plurality of sample-holding portions formed on the bottom face of the sample container; and a liquid-absorbent body capable of coming in contact with the liquid sample so that the body can absorb the excess sample, when the liquid sample is introduced into the container, while retaining the sample to be held on the sample-holding portions. This instrument can be used in a chemical or microbiological test wherein a sample is used in a relatively small amount and, in particular, those requiring a large number of reactions and cultivation. Moreover, the instrument does not require the dispensation of a sample to each reaction system and does not cause any scatter of the sample in the surroundings.

Abstract: A test kit for a chemical test or microbiological test, which comprises at least one independent sample-receiving part on a support is disclosed. The test kit of the present invention is usable for various chemical and microbiological tests which have been conducted with a plastic microplate and which have necessitated many reaction and culture steps in the prior art. The test kit of the present invention can be produced at an extremely low cost because of its structure. The test kit can previously contain a reagent necessitated for the test to remarkably facilitate the test.

Even aged people having a weak swallowing function can easily swallow the aqueous gel composition, without causing improper sucking into their tracheas.

The masticatory efficiency of a subject can be evaluated by having the subject chew the test agent composition for dentistry and determining the amount of the detection reagent transferred into the saliva of the subject.

Abstract: A cephalosporinase testing agent comprising a cephalosporin antibiotic, a penicillinase inhibitor in an amount of 20% by weight or less based on the weight of the cephalosporin-antibiotic, and a pH indicator which may be bromcresol purple is provided. A cephalosporinase producing bacteria can be judged by smearing a sample containing bacteria to be tested on the testing agent and observing the color tone change. According to this agent, cephalosporinase-active penicillinase producing bacteria are judged cephalosporinase-negative owing to the action of the penicillinase inhibitor, which may be clavulanic acid. Therefore, since only cephalosporinase producing bacteria are judged cephalosporinase-positive, this agent enables error free judgment.

The composition comprises (a) a butyrophenone compound and (b) a vehicle comprising polyvinyl acetal diethylaminoacetate and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The ratio of the compound to the vehicle is from 1% to 80% by weight based on the total weight of the vehicle and the ratio by weight of polyvinyl acetal diethylaminoacetate and polyvinyl pyrrolidone is from 1:9 to 9:1. The pharmaceutical composition can be applied to the skin of a patient for a long time and maintain a therapeutically effective blood level of the butyrophenone.
