  • Patent number: 7200556
Abstract: The invention provides the user of a unified messaging mailbox with efficient, intelligent, media and device sensitive methods and apparatus to access and process (e.g., read, listen, forward, and search) messages. The invention introduces media conversion capabilities to selectively treat multimedia messages and message attachments so that they can be efficiently handled by mobile devices like PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), pagers, or phone devices (with or without a text display feature). Furthermore, the invention introduces message content analysis capabilities that will recognize linguistic relationships between messages regardless of the media type. The invention also describes the ability to present these linguistic relationships along with the standard messaging relationships (Message arrival time, subject, sender, etc.). Still further, the invention introduces a message referencing option that allows simpler message selection from certain devices.

  • Patent number: 7200113
Abstract: In an isochronous telecommunications system sending packets over two routes in a network, a server of the network compares overall transmission delay between the routes. If the new route is faster, a server buffers cells on the new route until the last cell on the old route is delivered. Then the first cell from the new route is delivered at the old delay and subsequent new route cells are delivered with the same delay. If the old route is faster, a server identifies the type of transmission; if it is voice, a signal is inserted to alert the receiver of delay, and if the transmission is video, the system resends the last frame from the old route until frames from the new route arrive.

  • Patent number: 7197054
Abstract: A system, method, apparatus, means, and computer program code that facilitate conversion of a single data stream into two or more data streams (e.g., a down rate conversion) and for systems, means and that facilitate conversion of two or more input data streams into a single output data stream (e.g., an up rate conversion). According to some embodiments of the present invention, for an up rate conversion of two or more input data streams into a single output data stream, bits from the input data stream are shifted through a set of shift register elements or other storage positions on each clock cycle, but bits are only loaded into shift register elements on every other clock cycle.

  • Patent number: 7194078
Abstract: A system and apparatus within a communications server for intercepting supplemental service requests to a communications network and ensuring redirection to correct network party and optimal resource usage when redirecting a call over the network. The optimization system includes a database and database server software. A device/trunk handler is used to interface signalling channels to the optimization system. A monitoring and statistics unit monitors the signalling channels. The server software is responsive to the monitoring and statistics unit and selects the routing of the supplementary service through the appropriate server(s) in the network.

  • Patent number: 7184430
Abstract: A telecommunication system for enabling a subscriber to calling features available by a central office to have access to such calling features when such subscriber is accessing the central office through either a line connected to the central office or an Internet, Intranet, Extranet (i.e., IP) network which uses the TCP/IP network protocol. The method includes the steps of: processing signals received by the central office from the subscriber through either the IP network or the line connected to the central office to determine whether the subscriber is placing a call to the central office through either the line to the central or through the IP network; and making such calling features available to the subscriber independent of whether the subscriber is connected to the central office through the line to the central office or through the IP network.

  • Patent number: 7184531
Abstract: A system, method, apparatus, means, and computer program code for allowing an authorized party to join a conference are provided. In some embodiments, an application may create or generate a request for an MCU to handle an ad-hoc or meet-me type conference. The application may provide the request to an MCU resource controller or other device. The MCU resource controller may have knowledge of the capabilities of one or more MCUs and be able to assign an MCU to host or otherwise handle the conference. In addition, the MCU resource controller may create or generate a resource address that a participant in the conference may use to access the assigned MCU. The MCU resource controller can provide the resource address to the application, which may then distribute the resource address to one or more parties participating in the conference. The resource address may include or have associated data that the assigned MCU can use to validate or authorize a party to join the conference.

  • Patent number: 7180888
Abstract: A queue server is established in a packet telephony environment, wherein the queue server is defined as a callable entity, separate from the H.323 workstation for which it is being used. The queue may be used with any piece of H.323 software without modification to the software. All that need be done is the configuration that is typically accomplished when H.323 software is installed on the workstation. For example, the queue may be identified as a callable entity to receive call forwarding from the busy device or endpoint. The H.323 software of the endpoint needs to be able to handle only one call at a time, thereby reducing memory requirements for the equipment.

  • Patent number: 7181237
Abstract: A system for controlling a multi-mode mobile telephone via a single hardware and software man machine interface (MMI) includes a mode manager for managing switching of the system between two or more modes utilizing different air interface standards supported by different protocol stacks. A user interface communicates information and commands between the protocol stacks and a user. An application layer reduces the functional interface between the protocol stacks to layers of the protocol stacks subsequent to the user interface, allowing control of the mobile telephone to be provided via a single MMI that is substantially consistent across the all modes.

  • Patent number: 7174535
Abstract: Techniques for developing software applications are provided. In general, information is gathered throughout the software development process and that information is utilized to more efficiently build and install software applications. Application components can be defined at an early stage in the software application development. When the deliverable files are available or identified, the deliverable files can be mapped to the appropriate application component. Instructions for installing one or more builds of the software application can be generated utilizing this mapping and other information.

  • Patent number: 7158509
Abstract: An external or secondary messaging system is coupled to a ToL system for providing a temporary storage cache where messages may be left when elements of ToL system cannot be reached do to outage events. The secondary messaging system is located outside the area of the ToL system that may be subject to the outage event and hides the outage event from the caller (i.e., the caller leaves a message on a messaging system he or she believes the normal messaging system of the party called).

  • Patent number: 7158500
Abstract: A system, method, apparatus, means, and computer program code for requesting location data in a communications network, where the communications network includes a first base station server (BSS) in communication with a first serving mobile location center (SMLC), and a second BSS in communication with a second SMLC and a location measurement unit (LMU) under control of the second SMLC, the first and second BSS in communication with a serving general packet radio service support node (SGSN). According to some embodiments, a request for location data is generated at the first SMLC and is submitted to the first BSS using a packet-switched communications protocol. The first BSS forwards the request for location data to the SGSN using a packet-switched communications protocol. A response to the request for location data, generated by the second SMLC, is received. In some embodiments, the response can include a positive or a negative acknowledgement from the second SMLC.

  • Patent number: 7155244
Abstract: A method of providing precise common timing in a wireless communications network including at least one timing marker unit with a precise common time source, e.g., GPS. Wireless mobile units and/or timing marker units periodically measure transmission timing differences between pairs of neighboring base stations and each provide the measurements to a base station or central network entity. Timing marker units measure timing associations and return the results. An absolute transmission timing difference (ATD) is determined for each base station timing difference measurement. ATDs are collected and combined for each pair of base stations. A timing relationship is developed for all base stations from the combined ATDs, relating transmission timing of non-reference base stations to reference base stations. Timing associations are extracted for non-reference base stations from these timing difference relationships and the timing associations for the reference base stations.
