Abstract: An apparatus and a method provided for spraying a coolant to a work piece include a coolant feed line, at least one delivery nozzle for delivering the coolant, and shielding means which surround at least part of said delivery nozzle. The shielding means are arranged with the work piece to form an essentially closed space, and said shielding means includes exhausting means for exhausting gas from the essentially closed space, and means for keeping the outside of the shielding means at a temperature above the dew point.

Abstract: For controlling the flatness of the strip during the rolling of aluminum strip or foil, the system consists of a full width bank of cryogenic roll cooling devices acting on the roll(s) and a full width bank of roll heating devices also acting the roll(s). Abstract: In order to minimize the loss of cryogen during transportation of superconductive magnet systems, or indeed at any time that the refrigerator is turned off, part of the boil-off gas is directed from the cryogen vessel through the refrigerator interface and past the refrigerator to cool the refrigerator. Some of the heat conducted along the refrigerator into the system is intercepted and removed by that part of the boil-off gas. The heat load onto the cryogenic vessel is thereby reduced, which in turn reduces the boil-off of cryogen from the cryogenic vessel. This part of the boil-off gas is then vented from the system along with the remainder of the boil-off gas, for example to leave the cryogenic liquid vessel via the access neck.

Abstract: A cyclone has a cyclone body formed with a plurality of inlet ducts and an outlet. A first end of each of the inlet ducts is coupled to a downcomer and a second end of each of the inlet ducts is coupled to the cyclone body. Abstract: In a method for forming joints between MgB2 filaments of superconducting wires, the MgB2 filaments from the wires to be joined are exposed, and the exposed filaments are then exposed to a mixture of magnesium powder and boron powder in a furnace, and the MgB2 filaments and the magnesium and boron powders are pressed together in the furnace. The MgB2 filaments and the magnesium and the boron powders in the furnace are heated, and oxygen that is present within the furnace is preferentially trapped, and thus removed from the joint, by providing titanium within the furnace.
Abstract: A mounting plate for locating under a superconducting magnet structure, between the superconducting magnet structure and a supporting surface of a mobile carrier, is controllable between two different states. In a first state, the mount provides rigid attachment and precise location of the superconducting magnet structure onto the supporting surface of the mobile carrier. In a second state, the mount provides vibration isolation between the superconducting magnet and the mobile carrier.

Abstract: In a magnet system for MRI imaging comprising a superconducting magnet mounted within a cryogen vessel, apparatus is provided for controlling egress of cryogen gas from the cryogen vessel. The apparatus comprises a controlled valve linking the interior of the cryogen vessel to a gas exit path; and a controller arranged to control the valve. The valve is arranged such that a gas pressure in the cryogen vessel exceeding a gas pressure in the gas exit path acts on the valve to open the valve and allow venting of cryogen gas. The valve is also arranged such that a gas pressure in the cryogen vessel inferior to a gas pressure in the gas exit path acts on the valve to urge it closed, so restricting flow of gas into the cryogen vessel.
Abstract: A supported superconducting magnet includes a superconducting magnet arranged within an outer vacuum container and a support structure bearing the weight of the superconducting magnet against a support surface. The support structure includes a tubular suspension element located between the magnet and the support surface, the tubular suspension element retaining the magnet in a fixed relative position with reference to the outer vacuum container by means of complementary interface surfaces arranged to transmit the weight of the superconducting magnet to the support structure. The tubular suspension element is arranged about a generally vertical axis, and supports a solenoidal magnet structure which is arranged about a generally horizontal axis.
Abstract: In an MRI magnet structure for use with a radiation beam source as an assembly, magnet coils of varying diameters are concentrically arranged along a magnetic axis, the magnetic coils not sharing a common inner or outer radius. Mechanical support is provided to retain the magnetic coils in necessary relative fixed positions. The patient bore tube is provided through the assembly and defines a patient bore axis in an essentially horizontal direction such that the magnetic axis is inclined to the patient bore axis by an angle of 30°-60°. At least one radiation therapy beam access cavity provides access in a straight line for a radiation therapy beam to reach a treatment region within the magnet structure.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for displaying a digital medical image dataset. In an embodiment of the method, when a new set of diagnostic findings is generated, an associated new information field is also generated. A number of possible positions are determined for the new information field. Each of the positions is assigned an evaluation metric in accordance with a number of predefined criteria. The new information field is in this case arranged at that position having the best evaluation metric. Each existing information field that overlaps with the new information field is shifted until the existing information field is arranged free of overlap with the new information field. Other existing information fields that overlap with previously shifted information fields are shifted until all of the information fields are arranged free of overlap with one another.
