  • Patent number: 6810640
Abstract: Methods of producing a laminated package with an opening which is sealed by a tear-off strip or a pouring element as well as a corresponding laminated package are described. To be able to produce a laminated package with such a closure inexpensively, the following steps are provided in the method punching out an opening in a packaging material, coating the packaging material at least in the area of the opening, creating a package sheathing from the coated packaging material, conveying the package sheathing to a filling machine or to an equipment unit from the filling machine, and attaching a tear-open strip to the opening in the package sheathing in the filling machine or in the equipment unit upstream from the filling machine.

  • Patent number: 6554181
Abstract: A reclosable pouring element with a base member and a closure lid which serves at the same time as the opening device. A flange surrounding the opening surface of the pouring element is fixedly connected to a flat gable top composite packaging. The closure lid has lateral bearing pins which are supported in corresponding recesses of the base member, in which a safe connection between the base member and the closure lid and a reliable opening/closing function of the flat gable top composite packaging is provided. The recesses in the base member are arranged on the package side so that the closure lid can be clamped from the package side into the recesses for receiving the bearing pins provided in the base member.

  • Patent number: 6429664
Abstract: A method and device for determining the concentration of a medium other than air in an air/medium aerosol. The dielectric constant of the medium is measured using microwaves in a hollow conductor, with the aerosol passing through a neutral tube intersecting the hollow conductor. The microwave signal which propagates in the hollow conductor is subjected to attenuation and a phase shift due to the difference between the dielectric constant of the medium and that of air, the phase shift of the microwave signal being measured by taking into account the active path length (the tube in the cross section of the hollow conductor).

  • Patent number: 6357202
Abstract: A device capable of transporting package sleeves in an upright position, from any of several filling lines to one or more filling machines, wherein said several filling lines are aligned parallel to each other. The device utilizes a manipulator capable of linear travel in a direction perpendicular to the plane of alignment of the filling lines, a swiveling unit for moving the package sleeves in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the manipulator unit, and a gripper unit for gripping the package sleeves. The gripper unit is capable of supplying horizontal force to the package sleeves to enable their transport in an upright position. The gripper unit also has means to clamp to the loading magazine of the filling machine and to cause the horizontal transfer of the package sleeves thereto. By use of the present device, semi-automatic or automatic loading of package sleeves to one or more filling machines is possible.

  • Patent number: 6216945
Abstract: A pouring element for attachment to a package containing flowable material, and having a pouring opening covered with a perforated or otherwise weakened material. The pouring element of the present invention allows for the opening of the package without contamination of the contents therein. In one embodiment of the pouring element, there exists an opening means that has an attached support element and which is hinged to a base plate portion of the pouring element. In conjunction with movement of a lid portion, the support element and opening means act to penetrate a tearable material covering a pouring opening of the package, thereby allowing the contents thereof to be dispensed. In another embodiment, the opening means may be a portion of the support element and may be affixed to the lid. After initial opening of the lid, the support element may position itself such that closing of the lid will cause penetration of the tearable material layer by the opening means, and thus the opening of the package.

  • Patent number: 6092351
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of applying pouring elements to flat-gabled packages filled with free-flowing products, where the pouring elements are glued to the individually conveyed and sealed packages, where a fully automatic application operation is possible, where trouble due to improper positioning and incomplete gluing of the pouring elements is reliably prevented. In addition, it is desirable to prevent packages not having the pouring elements attached to them from leaving the gluing station. This is accomplished by the following steps: horizontal conveyance of successively arranged packages standing upright, separation of the packages and introduction of the separated packages into a gluing station depending on the presence of a pouring element, applying adhesive to the pouring element and gluing and pressing the pouring element to a predetermined area of each package.

  • Patent number: 6046427
Abstract: The invention concerns a process to cut, perforate, or inscribe repeating patterns in continuously-moving flat material by locally vaporizing the flat material with at least one controllable laser beam from at least one beam deflection system whereby each laser beam is moved relative to the flat material in two perpendicular directions (x and y) from a fixed point, and a device to implement the procedure.

  • Patent number: 6041968
Abstract: A device for the opening and re-closing of packages, more particularly flat, gabled, composite packages. The device consists generally of: a pouring aperture with a pouring nozzle formed thereon; a base having a flange enclosing the pouring aperture, for the attachment of the device to the surface of the container; a cover hinged to the base; and an opening element connected to the cover, the opening element disposed to move in a guide in the cover so that during the opening operation, the opening element pierces the subjacent container material through the pouring aperture in the base. The design is such that the clean opening and re-closing of the device is ensured and the package is tightly sealed. Opening of the package is accomplished by pressing an opening element consisting of a pressure plate and a piercing ring. After opening, the pressure plate remains with the cover, while the piercing ring remains in the base.

  • Patent number: 6007756
Abstract: A process and device are disclosed for perforating and/or partially cutting printed laminated composite materials by means of laser beams from at least one laser arranged in a laser station. In order to minimize equipment costs, in particular for the control of the perforation and/or partial cutting processes, without having to renounce to an exact positioning of the perforations and/or partial cuts, a process is disclosed characterized by the following steps: the laminated composite material web is cut into individual blanks (1) according to the printed image and/or folding pattern; the blanks (1) are transported to the laser station; and the perforations or partial cuts are carried out in the stationary blank (1). Also disclosed are means for carrying out the process.

  • Patent number: 5924267
Abstract: Shown and described is a process for closing filled open-top folded-carton packages (1) made from bottom-sealed tubular sections, whereby closing is by ultrasonic welding by means of an anvil (5) comprising a recess for the longitudinal seam (2) of the folded-carton package (1), and a sonotrode (6), and a device for filling such folded-carton packages (1) and closing the gable seam (8). Optimal tightness of the filled folded-carton packages (1) is achieved by position-acquisition of the longitudinal seam (2) of every folded-carton package (1) in relation to the cell transporting this folded-carton package (1), alignment of the anvil across the direction of transport of the folded-carton packages (1) until the recess for the longitudinal seam (2) matches the actual position of the longitudinal seam (2) of the next folded-carton package (1) to be closed, and sealing and folding over the gable seam (8) or the ridge seam respectively.
