  • Patent number: 4598645
Abstract: A tamper has tamping tools intended for tamping the open track and the switch gear. Each tool is mounted on an oscillating and pivoting lever (6) and has a fixed pick (20) and a pick (21) displaceable by pivoting in a plane transverse to the track around a shaft (23) which is rigidly connected to the lever (6) and by means of a cylinder (26). The tappets (22) of these picks are offset and partially cover one another in the close-together position and the picks are arched towards the outside so as to leave sufficient space between them for the flow of the ballast above the tappets. The switch gear is tamped in close-together position of the tappets over a reduced length (R) and the open track is tamped in spaced position over a greater length, the stroke of the cylinder (26) limiting and defining these two positions.

  • Patent number: 4538061
Abstract: The machine comprises a device for shifting the track which is controlled by a device for the detection of its geometrical defects. The detection device comprises three rail feelers to which there are connected a light-ray emitter (17), a screen (18) having two parallel delimiting edges (19, 20) and a receiver (21) having two identical photovoltaic cells (22, 23) arranged in such a manner that the sum of their irradiated surfaces (u+d) is a constant and their difference (u-d) is proportional to the displacements of the screen. The signals produced by the two cells are processed in an electronic circuit comprising a totalizer (28) delivering a signal for the control of the displacement device proportional to the said difference (u-d) and a piloting circuit (30, 41, 42) of the emitter to maintain the irradiation of the two cells constant by comparison of a signal proportional to the said sum (u=d) with a reference signal (S.sub.0).

Abstract: The machine comprises a device for shifting the track which is controlled by a device for the detection of its geometrical defects. The detection device comprises three rail feelers spaced apart from each other and to which there are connected a light-ray emitter (17), a screen (18) having two parallel delimiting edges (19, 20), and a receiver (21) having two identical photovoltaic cells (22, 23) arranged in such a manner that the sum of their irradiated surfaces (u+d) is a constant and their difference (u-d) is proportional to the displacements of the screen respectively. The signals emitted by the two cells are processed in an electronic circuit comprising a calculation unit (30) delivering a signal for the control of the displacement device representative of the quotient (u-d)/(u+d) of the difference divided by the said sum so as to make this signal independent of variations in irradiation of the two cells.

  • Patent number: 4488492
Abstract: Each tamping unit of the tamping machine has a gantry (6) which is inclinable transversely to the track and in which the tool holder (3) is mounted for vertical movement. The amplitude of the downward movement of the tool holder (3) is regulated by a device (16 to 21) controlled by a command level corresponding to the depth of tamping desired. In order to correct the differences (E) between the depth of tamping reached and that desired which are caused by the inlination of the gantry (6), the command level is lowered by a distance substantially equal to the differences by a correction device comprising a mechanical feeler (25) for detecting the inclination of the gantry (6) and a mechanical connection (26, 34) connecting the said feeler to the sensitive member (16) of the regulating device in order to vary the zero thereof. In a variant, this correction device is formed of an electronic circuit which permits the cancelling of the differences (E).

  • Patent number: 4466355
Abstract: The tamping machine is equipped with tamping units having tools (4) intended to be used for tamping both on the open track and of the switch gear. These tools are mounted on a frame (7) which is mounted for vertical movement in a gantry (8) suspended from the chassis (1) of the tamping machine by a double articulation (13, 14, 15), imparting to this gantry a transverse and longitudinal pendulum mobility with respect to the track. In order to be able to adapt the length of the compacting effected by the tools (4) in their two uses, each of these tools has two interchangeable lockable work configurations, one of which is formed of a single pick (22, FIG. 2) for the tamping of the switches and the other of which is formed of two picks (21, 22, FIG. 3) juxtaposed in the transverse direction of the track, for the tamping of the open track.

  • Patent number: 4458600
Abstract: The tamping machine comprises, for each row of rails (6) a tamping unit (4) which is movable in the transverse direction of the track in order to tamp the track switches. The controlled transverse mobility of each tamping unit, to the right and the left of the line of rails, is obtained by the combination of a lever manual control member (26) and an automatic control circuit (38) which is controlled by two amplitude limiters (34, 36).A switch (32) makes it possible to change from manual to automatic and vice versa.By presetting the amplitude limiter at a value corresponding to a transverse position of the tamping unit which is repeated several times along the track switch, the positioning of the tamping unit is obtained by simple actuation of the switch upon arrival at these recurrent positions.

  • Patent number: 4445437
Abstract: A tamping machine intended for tamping on the open track and below switches and cross overs. It is equipped with independent tamping units arranged on opposite sides of each line of rail and each connected to the chassis by a mechanism comprising: a transverse slideway actuated by a first piston-cylinder unit; a slide block mounted on the slideway and on which the tamping unit is articulated; an arm fastened to the tamping unit; and a connecting rod connecting said arm to the chassis. The slide block of the outer unit is fastened on the slideway while the slide block of the inner unit is movable on said slideway and driven by a second piston-cylinder unit. Thus, the transverse trajectory of the tamping tools is sufficiently flat to avoid a correction of their depth of penetration upon the tamping of long ties.

  • Patent number: 4428297
Abstract: The tamping machine has two tamping units (2,3) which are inclinable transversely to the track in order to tamp the track switches. Each of these tamping units is articulated at its upper part on a slide (18) which is displaced by a cylinder-piston unit (19) on a transverse slideway (16) fastened on a rigid frame (6). This frame is mounted for pivoting around a vertical axis (X) on two brackets (7, 8) fastened to the frame (1) of the tamping machine. The inclination of each tamping unit is coordinated with its translation on the slideway (16) by a rod (32) which connects an element (30) of the tamping unit to the chassis (1) so as to reduce the differences in tamping depth caused by the transverse displacement of the tools (25).The lower portion of the tamping units comprises an arm (34) engaged in a curved slideway (23) fastened to the frame (6) in order to transmit the longitudinal tamping forces to the latter.

  • Patent number: 4395953
Abstract: A tamping machine having a chassis mounted on two trucks and track displacement tools as well as tamping tools arranged on the chassis between the two trucks is disclosed. On the front part of the chassis, two cabs are installed on opposite sides of a power plant arranged on the chassis, and the rear portion of this chassis is free of any superstructure. The first cab has a first driving station and a station for displaying and setting the track displacement values overlooking the front of the tamping machine, and the second cab has a second driving station overlooking the rear of the machine and a tamping operator station overlooking the track displacement tools and tamping tools. The control stations are thus grouped in two cabs at their optimum locations.

  • Patent number: 4341160
Abstract: Railway track tamping machine comprising a leveling device regulated by two reference lines (D.sub.1, D.sub.2) each determined by the alignment of an emitter (9, 90), a mask (10, 100) and a receiver (11, 110) which are sensitive to the variations of illumination caused by the vertical displacements of the masks. The masks (10, 100) are held at constant height from the lines of rails by a frame (2), while the emitters (9, 90) and the receivers (11, 110) borne by the two other frames (1, 3) are mounted in vertically adjustable fashion on them.Controls (15, 16-14, 140) make it possible to maintain, under all conformations of the track, the two references lines (D.sub.1, D.sub.2) parallel to each other and to thus form a plane (P) to which the desired transverse inclination (.alpha.) is imparted above the tamped region on which the frame (2) bearing the masks is supported.
