Patent number: 4804338Abstract: A backshell assembly and method of making and assembling a connection between electrical cable and another electrical device are disclosed. The backshell assembly includes a hollow cylindrical body having a first end for attachment to the other electrical device. A hollow cylindrical nut is provided for attachment to the other end of the backshell body and for entrance of the cable. A hollow cylindrical heat shrinkable tube is provided with its central portion shrunk down and bonded to the nut and with end extensions stress relieved by being heat shrunk and provided with an inside diameter greater than the diameter of the outside surface of the nut.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1987Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Assignee: Sigmaform CorporationInventors: Gary L. Dibble, James H. Reynolds, Susan L. Stene

Patent number: 4647716Abstract: An article comprising a generally axially extending outer, tubular member, a plurality of generally axially extending cylindrical members, and a heat expandable foam sealing member. The outer tubular member has at least one opening and occupies a predetermined volume. Each of the cylindrical members is received by outer tubular member in an axially extending, parallel fashion such that the cylindrical members occupy a volume that is less than the volume of the outer tubular member. The sealing member, capable of sealing the opening of outer tubular member, occupies a volume that is generally equal to the difference between the volume of the outer tubular member and the volume of the cylindrical members.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1984Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: Sigmaform CorporationInventors: James K. Akiyama, Klaus D. Freysing, Richard A. Young

Patent number: 4410009Abstract: A recoverable sleeve assembly is disclosed having an inner elastomeric tube and an outer rigid tube surrounding and secured to the inner tube holding the inner tube in outwardly stretched condition and wherein the outer tube extends axially beyond and covering at least one end of the inner tube and secured to that end of the inner tube. The end of the outer tube extending beyond the end of the inner tube has a thickness equal to the total thickness of the inner tube plus the thickness of that portion of the outer tube that surrounds the inner tube. The outer tube is a rigid thermosetting adhesive polyurethane comprising a polyester polyol reacted with an isocyanate whereby the outer tube is sufficiently adhesive to hold the inner tube in outwardly stretched condition but will peel from the inner tube upon impact of force or application of heat without need for a solvent.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1982Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Assignee: Sigmaform CorporationInventor: John M. Patent number: 4153747Abstract: Wrap around closures for cables, pipes, splices, and junctions to effect repair, insulation, waterproofing and the like and a method for preparing such closures are described. The closures comprise generally rectangular sheets of heat shrinkable polymer having a large central section which has been hot stretched and cooled while in stretched condition and two small, flat unstretched end sections integral with the central section. Each end section has a layer of non-silicone adhesive covering one of its surfaces, optionally a layer of non-porous support material covering and adhering to the adhesive layer, a layer of silicone adhesive covering and adhering to the non-silicone support layer and a peelably removable cover layer covering the upper surface of the silicone adhesive layer. The several layers lie on the upper surface of one of the end sections and on the lower surface of the other end section.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1978Date of Patent: May 8, 1979Assignee: Sigmaform CorporationInventors: Richard A. Patent number: 3959052Abstract: An article and method for preparing wraparound closures for cables, pipes, splices, and junctions to effect repair, insulation, waterproofing and the like are described. The article is a generally rectangular sheet of a plastic material which has the property of shrinking toward its original dimensions when it is heated after having been stretched at elevated temperature and cooled while in stretched condition. The sheet has a large central section which has been hot stretched and cooled and two small end sections which have not been stretched. The wrap-around closure is made by wrapping the sheet loosely around the object to be enclosed and bringing the two end sections together so that one overlays the other, one or both of the facing surfaces of the end sections is coated with a thin layer of a lower alkyl cyanoacrylate adhesive. The end sections rapidly and strongly adhere to each other. The wrap-around sheet is then heated to a temperature in the range about 250.degree.-375.degree.F.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1975Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: Sigmaform CorporationInventor: Mark J.
