  • Patent number: 5327720
Abstract: A regulator valve having a diaphragm which responds to changes in an operational fluid pressure differential by overcoming a first spring and moving a stem of a first spool away from a stop to thereafter allowing a supply fluid pressure to create a regulator-fluid pressure differential across a second spool. The regulator fluid pressure differential overcomes a second spring and moves a cylindrical body of a second spool to position a land and allow supply fluid to freely flow to a reservoir. Flow of supply fluid to the reservoir sequentially reduces the supply fluid pressure to permit the first spring to reposition the stem of the first spool in a wall to terminate communication of the supply fluid pressure to the second spool. A passage in the second spool allows supply fluid pressure to bleed to a reservoir and thereby proportionally reduce the regulator fluid pressure differential.

  • Patent number: 5328612
Abstract: A liquid filter element includes a circumferentially extending array of pleated filtering material. The end sections of each of the pleats are folded over and crushed together, and are embedded in a plastic plug to form a rigid link extending substantially transversely with respect to the array to thereby strengthen the array against inward radial collapse in response to liquid pressure acting on the array. A process for making the element is disclosed which includes the step of forming a circular array of pleats, applying pressure to the end sections of the pleats to crush the pleats and rigidify them, and then bending the rest of the array about the rigidified portion to form the thimble-shaped filter element.

  • Patent number: 5323689
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a tandem brake booster by selectively choosing a front shell having a first cylindrical body with first effective diameter, a transition shell having a second cylindrical body with a second effective diameter and a rear shell having a third cylindrical body with a third effective diameter. The cylindrical body of the transition shell is an integral component of an end wall which separates the interior the resulting tandem brake booster. The end wall has a peripheral ledge with a flange extending therefrom and a groove located on the flange connected to the second cylindrical body. An annular surface on the first cylindrical body is crimped into the groove on the flange while a corresponding annular surface on the second cylindrical body is crimped onto the third cylindrical to join the transition shell with the rear shell to form an integral unit.

  • Patent number: 5324588
Abstract: Improved poly(vinyl chloride) compositions which exhibit improved adhesivity to polyamide which find particular utility in the construction of multi-layer structures, particularly for the fabrication of improved structures for use in forming electrical insulation structures for wires and cables. In one useful embodiment, the multi-layer structure has in the following order: a layer of PVC and a layer of polyamide in contact with the layer of PVC wherein the layer of PVC includes a vinyl chloride containing copolymer or a terpolymer which exhibits good solubility with the PVC, and which further provides good adhesivity with the PA. The vinyl resin is selected from the group consisting of vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol terpolymers.

  • Patent number: 5317381
Abstract: A pneumatically dithered ring laser gyroscope features providing an oscillatory motion directly to a segment of the excited gas which serves as the laser photon source. Alternately switching ionizing potential between two cathodes in appropriately designed cavities establishes desired oscillatory gas velocities to effect emitted frequencies within the gyro, thereby permitting the detection of rotational rates below the "lock-in" rate of the undithered gyro.

  • Patent number: 5315819
Abstract: A power management system for turbine engines includes a plurality of switches, each allowing for engine speed and engine torque to be controlled together. The switches correspond to various modes of operation of the turbine engine. When a switch is selected, a mode signal is supplied to a FADEC which, in response, issues speed and torque commands to an associated engine. The FADEC includes function generators that issue the torque commands as a function of outside ambient conditions. The torque commands are continuously updated for changing ambient conditions. Further, takeoff torque can be corrected for heating conditions. The power management system can also provide torque commands as a linear function of power lever angle.
