Patent number: 9468968Abstract: A tensioner for strap includes a housing, a battery, a motor, a tension head having a tension wheel operably connected to the motor and a nosepiece having a pinch element. The nosepiece is mounted to the tension head for movement relative thereto. An actuator handle is mounted to the nosepiece to move the pinch element toward and away from the tension wheel. A strap sensor is operably connected to a controller and senses the presence or absence of strap between the tension wheel and the pinch element. A home position switch senses pinch wheel proximity to the tension wheel. The nosepiece is moved away from the tension head to introduce strap to the tool and the home position switch changes state to signal the controller to permit actuation of the motor when the strap sensor senses the presence of strap between the pinch element and the tension wheel.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2013Date of Patent: October 18, 2016Assignee: Signode Industrial Group LLCInventors: Janusz Figiel, Michael J. Patent number: 9415971Abstract: Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a reusable adjustable coil protector for a plurality of differently sized coils. The adjustable coil protector has an unassembled generally linear resting configuration and plurality of different assembled generally cylindrical configurations. The adjustable coil protector is formed and maintained in the generally linear unassembled configuration for storage and transport before and after use. The adjustable coil protector is bent and wrapped around itself, positioned, and securely locked in a user selected one of the plurality of different assembled generally cylindrical configurations prior to mounting the adjustable coil protector on a coil. The adjustable coil protector is configured to reduce inventory, shipping, and warehousing space needed for the adjustable coil protector because the adjustable coil protector can be used on a plurality of differently sized coils or the same size coils with different sized central openings.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2014Date of Patent: August 16, 2016Assignee: Signode Industrial Group LLCInventors: Dominique Duchanois, John M. Patent number: 9296501Abstract: A strap feed assembly for a strapping machine reduces wear on the pinch and drive wheels of feed head components by creating a gap between the pinch and drive wheels while using a cam and an engagement surface to grip the strap during a cut-and-seal phase of a strapping cycle. In the strap feed assembly, a rocker arm has an engagement surface and a pivot axis parallel to both the axis of rotation of the pinch wheel and the axis of rotation of the drive wheel. An eccentric cam, driven by a cam motor, is engageable with the engagement surface of the rocker to move the pinch wheel into and out of engagement with the drive wheel. Thus, the pinch and drive wheels are configured to grip the strap during a strap feed phase, while the cam and the engagement surface grip the strap during the cut-and-seal phase.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2011Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Signode Industrial Group LLCInventors: James A.
