  • Patent number: 4708247
Abstract: A method for forming paperboard slip sheets for receiving, handling, storing and shipping a unitized load of products. The method includes embossing in a surface of the paperboard sheets a pattern of indentations, the pattern being such that when the slip sheets are stacked the indentations are not in registry and do not nest one with another. The depth of the indentations is sufficient such that when a suction is applied to a surface of the top sheet of the stack to grip the top sheet for transfer, only the top sheet is gripped thereby thus preventing the transport of more than one slip sheet at a time.

  • Patent number: 4591519
Abstract: An air bag for bracing product shipped by a railcar, trailer or overseas container to prevent lengthwise and/or crosswise movement of the cargo. The air bag includes a first sheet of paperboard having parallel side and end edges folded inwardly defining a planar center section and overlapping sides and ends, a second sheet of paperboard of the same dimension as the center section facing the center section and having its marginal side and end edges interposed between the center section and the overlapping side and end sections of the first sheet and glued to the side and end sections, and an inflatable bladder between the two sheets. The bag is constructed of relatively stiff paperboard of a minimum of two laminated plys. Thus, the overlapping side and end edges of the first sheet define with the second sheet a peripheral border of a minimum of six laminated plys of paperboard. The bag has relatively good vertical stiffness when uninflated making it easy to use.

  • Patent number: 4513864
Abstract: An interior core protector for protecting the interior of a coil of material, e.g., coiled sheet steel, from damage is disclosed. The core protector includes a pair of overlapping formed angular paperboard members each having a series of spaced die cuts in one leg thereof permitting the angular members to be bent to conform to the inner diameter of the coil. The cuts in one leg are offset from the cuts in the other leg such that when the protector is bent for placement in the interior core of the coil and the width of the cuts increases, a paperboard segment of one member nevertheless overlies the cut in the other to provide protection for the material about the full circumference of the interior core. The core protector is characterized in part by economies of materials used, economic use of such materials, and economies of shipment.
