  • Patent number: 5033216
Abstract: A frame member for a sign assembly for use with flexible signs comprises an elongated body having an outer side having a front edge which defines a lip for engaging a back side of an edge portion of the sign and applying a tensile force to the sign. The channel extends longitudinally of the body and inwardly of the outer side thereof and opens in the outer side for receiving in edgewise fashion an elongated tensioning bar having an edge portion of the sign folded thereover and secured thereto by a plurality of spring clips. The channel is formed with a plurality of transversely spaced, inwardly facing shoulders which are engageable with the spring clips for securing the edge portion of the sign within the channel and enabling the sign to be tensioned by urging the tensioning bar inwardly of the channel to enable the material clamping means to successively engage successive shoulders.

  • Patent number: 4937961
Abstract: A sign assembly has a frame surrounding an aperture, and a sheet of flexible sign material has a main portion stretched across the aperture and an end portion secured to the frame. The frame has a lip member defining the aperture, the lip member having a free end over which the flexible sign sheet passes, the frame also having a U-shaped channel portion rearwardly of the lip member and receiving an end portion of the sign sheet. A mounting bar extends longitudinally within the U-shaped channel, and the sheet end portion is wrapped, around the mounting bar. A series of spaced U-shaped resilient clips retain the mounting bar and wrapped around sheet end portion therein. The U-shaped channel has at least one wall with a plurality of longitudinally-extending shoulders which face in a rearward direction from the lip member.

  • Patent number: 4692847
Abstract: An illuminated awning assembly has a frame with an upright rear frame portion having upper and lower frame members and a pair of upright side members extending between respective opposite ends of the upper and lower frame members. A horizontal frame portion has a pair of horizontal side members extending forwardly from the respective junctions of the rear lower frame member and the upright side members, and a lower front frame member extending between front ends of the horizontal side members. A pair of further side frame members are on opposite sides of the frame, each extending from the junction of the lower front frame member and respective horizontal side frame member to the junction of the upper frame member and the respective upright side member.

  • Patent number: 4674214
Abstract: A sign has a rigid peripheral frame extending around an opening lying in a plane, and a sheet of flexible sign material extends across the opening. The frame has an edge surrounding the opening, and the flexible sign material has a peripheral edge portion extending over the edge and rearwardly from the plane of the opening. A series of separate sheet tensioning devices is spaced around the frame rearwardly of the plane of the opening, each tensioning device comprising means for retaining the peripheral edge portion of the flexible sign material and means for adjusting the position of the retaining means relatively to the frame to cause the peripheral edge portion of the flexible sign material to be pulled rearwardly across the frame edge to tension the flexible sign material across the opening.

  • Patent number: 4542605
Abstract: A sign has a rigid peripheral frame extending around an opening lying in a plane and a sheet of flexible sign material extending across the opening. The frame has a flange with a free end defining the periphery of the opening, the flange extending from the free end in a direction relative to the opening. The flexible sign sheet material has a peripheral edge portion extending over the free end of the flange from the plane of the opening and then extending from the flange free end in a rearwardly and inwardly direction relative to the opening. A series of separate tensioning devices are spaced around the frame rearwardly of the plane of the opening and inwardly of the periphery of the opening.

  • Patent number: 4380880
Abstract: An illuminated sign assembly has a casing with a wall extending downwardly from the top, the top having a substantially horizontal shelf and a downwardly extending lip below the shelf, and the wall having a flange with a free end portion resting on the shelf. A hinge member has a generally U-shaped section with upwardly extending spaced arms connected by a bight, the bight being located below the downwardly extending lip of the top with one arm extending upwardly on one side of the lip below the flange. The flange is detachably secured to one arm of the hinge member, and the other arm of the hinge member extends upwardly on the opposite side of the lip to the one arm to retain the wall in assembly with the top while permitting limited upward pivotal movement of the wall relative to the top by pivoting of the free end of the flange on the shelf.
