Patents Assigned to Silk Engineering (Derby) Limited
  • Patent number: 5183365
Abstract: A boring and surfacing machine (12) has a rotatable carriage (15) on which a tool carriage (16) is axially moveable. The tool carriage (16) supports a tool post (18). The tool carriage (16) and the tool post (18) can be driven axially and radially respectively, by means of lead screws (46) and (58). The rotatable carriage (15) can comprise two or more rails (36) enabling the dimensions of a work piece to be measured while the machine is in position and also to provide a relatively high moment of inertia.

  • Patent number: 4922772
Abstract: A machine tool (10) intended for machining components on site comprises a frame (12) mounted on bearings (14, 16). Each bearing (14, 16) comprises an inner fixed bearing (14C, 14D, 16C, 16D) clamped to a work piece (22) and an outer rotatable bearing (14A, 14B, 16A, 16B). The frame (12) supports one or more spindles (74) having two cutting tools (82, 84) which are driven by air motors (76) through gear boxes (78). The frame (12) is driven by an air motor (60) through a reduction gear box (56) and annular gear (54). The bearings (14, 16) are both split to enable the machine to be assembled around a work piece (22) so that the tool can machine diameters (22A, 22B).

  • Patent number: 4923343
Abstract: A machine tool (10,100) particularly a portable machine tool for use in machining or operating on surfaces remote from the drive of the machine tool comprises a base (34,102) attached to a work piece (14,114), a carriage (36,128), tool support means (14,126), and an operating tool (64,144) having a cutting head (80,136). The carriage and operating tool are driven and the axes and carriage of the operating tool are offset so that a cutting tool on the operating tool describes an epicyclic path to mill at least one surface on the work piece.
