Publication number: 20110189326Abstract: A sunshade for a vehicle having a first guide and a second guide spaced from the first guide. The sunshade has a pair of edges and includes a substrate layer and an aesthetic layer fixed to the substrate layer to present a show surface. Slide portions are disposed along each of the edges and are adapted to move within the first and second guides as the sunshade moves between an open position and a closed position. The slide portions define a generally corrugated configuration to provide a force that must be overcome to move the sunshade between the open position and the closed position.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2011Publication date: August 4, 2011Applicant: SIMCO AUTOMOTIVEInventor: Scott Kloock

Patent number: 6426130Abstract: An automotive trim panel has a thermoformable structural layer shaped into a non-flat contour with a pressure sensitive adhesive system applied to one side of the panel. The pressure sensitive adhesive is coated onto a release liner which is then attached to the structural layer. Both the adhesive and release liner are capable of withstanding the high heat of thermoforming. The trim panel can be applied to a substrate by peeling away the release liner and sticking the panel to the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1998Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignees: Simco Automotive Trim, Inc., SIA Adhesives, Inc.Inventors: Vincent H-H Jones, Edward Kuivinen, David W. Patent number: 6238507Abstract: A trim panel for use in automotive trim applications is made from a laminate of a thermoformable support layer and an A-side layer made of vinyl or cloth or similar material. The laminate is thermoformed to impart permanently the contour of a rigid substrate to which the panel will be attached. The support layer retains the desired contour without the use of other materials. The support layer is made of an intermediate layer and a bottom layer of thermoformable foam. The foam layers have different densities to allow selection of the hand or touch of the A-side layer.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1999Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Simco Automotive Trim, Inc.Inventors: Vincent H-H Jones, David L. Simon

Patent number: 6136404Abstract: A panel adaptable for use in automotive trim applications has a laminate of a support layer and an A-side layer made of vinyl or cloth. The support layer is made of a thermoformable material such as foam, felt or polypropylene. The laminate is thermoformed to impart the contour of a rigid substrate to which the panel will be attached. The support layer retains the desired contour without the use of other materials. The panel may have a shirred appearance imparted thereto by the inclusion of a plurality of gathers therm.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1998Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Simco Automotive Trim, Inc.Inventors: Vincent H-H Jones, Scott M. Patent number: 5962089Abstract: A trim panel for use in automotive trim applications is made from a laminate of a thermoformable foam layer and an A-side layer made of vinyl or cloth or the like. The laminate is thermoformed to impart permanently the contour of a rigid substrate to which the panel will be attached. The foam layer retains the desired contour without the use of other materials. The A-side material and foam layer may be laminated by an adhesive layer which may be a foam which is flame laminated to the foam layer and A-side layer. The foam layer may be encased by thin layers of polyethylene. Process controls are applied allowing thermoforming of parts to automotive precision.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Simco Automotive Trim, Inc.Inventors: Vincent H-H Jones, David L.
