Patent number: 5371825Abstract: A high-strength, waterproof cable capable of transmitting large quantities of information over great distances in a reliable and durable fashion and a method of making the cable is provided. The cable includes a first central core portion having a pair of opposed ends, with each end having a locking surface. The cable further includes a second central core portion having a pair of opposed ends, each end having a locking surface. The second core portion is sealed to the first core portion by engagement of the respective locking surfaces. The sealed first and second core portions form a central core having a hollow interior chamber. A water-blocking material is located in the sealed chamber and an optical fiber array is located in the sealed chamber and embedded in the water-blocking material. A multiplicity of high tensile strength steel wires are helically wrapped around the core and a thermoplastic jacket is positioned outwardly of and surrounding the steel wires.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1993Date of Patent: December 6, 1994Assignee: Simplex Wire and Cable CompanyInventor: Richard Traut

Patent number: 4950001Abstract: A graduated friction anchor ring for a coupling mounted on an end of a composite pipe having a pipe core and an aramid fiber layer, the aramid fiber layer possessing poor crush resistance properties and the graduated friction anchor ring being integrally positioned within the coupling to securely and delicately anchor the aramid fiber layer in conjunction with a wedge ring. The graduated friction anchor ring comprises an anchor ring, having outer and inner surfaces and an end portion connecting the surfaces, the inner surface being inclined with respect to the surface of the wedge ring, the aramid fiber layer being positioned intermediate the anchor ring and the pipe core, the wedge ring being wedged within the pipe core to wedge the aramid fiber layer between the pipe core and the anchor ring to generate graduated compression along the aramid fiber layer in a longitudinal direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1987Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: Simplex Wire & CableInventor: Kerry D. Patent number: 4890867Abstract: A coupling combination comprising a ferrule ring having a portion outwardly of the outer surface of said pipe and having an integral deformable ferrule arm extending longitudinally therefrom adjacent to the outer surface of the pipe, the ring being placed over the pipe such that the ring surrounds an end portion thereof; a cam ring also located outwardly of the outer surface of the pipe and longitudinally placed from the deformable ferrule arm, and having a curved surface arranged to deform the ferrule arm into the pipe upon longitudinal movement of the cam ring against the ferrule; and a plurality of bolts passing through a portion of the cam ring and into the ferrule ring for affecting such longitudinal movement.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1987Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Simplex Wire & CableInventors: Kerry D. Patent number: 4504695Abstract: A coupling for joining two sections of an electric power cable, each power cable section having an inner conductor, an insulating sheath about the inner conductor, an armored winding layer comprised of a plurality of wrapped armor rods and an insulating layer about the armored winding layer, is provided. The coupling includes an inner conductor splice housing, two armored winding termination housings lockably attached to the ends of the splice housing, means for mechanically anchoring the armor rods from a cable section within an armored winding termination housing, means for electrically connecting the armor rods to the anchoring means so that the armor rods are electrically insulated from the armored winding termination housing as well as the inner conductor, and means for electrically securing the anchoring means in one termination housing to the anchoring means in the other termination housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1983Date of Patent: March 12, 1985Assignee: Simplex Wire & Cable CompanyInventors: Gregory N. Patent number: 4204129Abstract: This invention relates to the transmission of electric power and in particular provides an electric power-transmission system having reduced vector regulation, voltage drop, and power loss through the inclusion of capacitance in the cable in series between the generator and load by utilizing electric conductors, i.e., connective links, having capacitance distributed along the length of the cable. Such capacitance is achieved by dividing a conductor into two parts which are separated by dielectric material such that the two conductor parts are in capacitive relation along the length of the cable and by connecting one conductor part to the generator and the other conductor part to the load such that the distributed capacitance is in series with the generator and load.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1977Date of Patent: May 20, 1980Assignee: Simplex Wire and Cable CompanyInventor: Loren H.
