Abstract: A computer-implemented method that uses a preprogrammed neural network and a trained neural network computer program product to predict and then compared borehole and formation sigmas, when using a pulse neutron source and at least three dual-function radiation detectors. These dual-function radiation detectors are used for detecting both neutrons and gamma rays and further pre-programmed to distinguish between neutrons and gamma rays by using pulse shape discrimination techniques. The trained neural network computer program product can be used on above-surface systems, as well as below surface systems like borehole assemblies in logging-while-drilling systems.

Abstract: A method for wireline or logging-while-drilling systems that uses pulsed neutron sources coupled to multiple dual-function radiation detectors of neutrons and gamma rays, as well as a non-transitory computer readable memory device that can distinguish using pulse shape discrimination techniques the neutrons from the gamma rays in order to measure thermal neutron time-decay signals and thermal neutron capture gamma ray time-decay signals that are later further process using the non-transitory computer readable memory device to obtain a borehole sigma and formation sigma that are not affected by near-wellbore environments.

Abstract: A method, and a system for implementing the method, are disclosed wherein coordinates of survey region are used to locate small pieces of a seismic wave model, usually defined by their nodes (or vertices) and contain information about physical properties, such as liquid or solid, density, velocity that seismic waves propagates in it; and connects them to the appropriate source and receiver sensor. In particular, the method and system disclosed, generates a multi-layer mapping of the survey region by decomposing the survey region into cubes containing small pieces of seismic wave models (the elements), as well as source and receiver location. Those cubes are then indexed depending upon their location and the elements, sources and receivers are assigned to a particular cube thereby creating a multi-layer relationship between the survey region map, the cube map, the elements map, as well as the source and receiver locations.

Abstract: A method and a system for implementing the method are disclosed wherein the pre-stack seismic input data, an initial anellipticity anisotropy parameter, and a baseline normal moveout velocity from a non-flat surface, are sometimes mild or foothill topography as well as the shot and receiver lines might not necessarily be straight, and often curve to avoid obstacles on the land surface. In particular, the method and system disclosed, allows for updating the anisotropy parameters iteratively and when the stopping criteria is satisfied, the final estimated parameter can be directly used for time migration. This method and system are mainly used for time migration with the purpose of obtaining the high fidelity (accurate amplitude, i.e. not only travel-time correct but also amplitude correct) image gathers which are used for reservoir characterization and interpretation.

Abstract: A method and a system for implementing the method are disclosed wherein the source wavelet, input parameter models, and seismic input data may be obtained from a non-flat surface, sometimes mild, or foothill topography as well as the shot and receiver lines might not necessarily be straight, and often curve to avoid obstacles on the land surface. In particular, the method and system disclosed, suppresses low wavenumber and low frequency noises, by balancing lateral and vertical amplitudes to produce an image of subsurface reflectors located within a survey area having higher lateral resolutions and wavenumbers, as well as higher high-cut frequencies, and lower low-cut frequencies in complex media, than could otherwise not be achieved by other methods commonly known in the art.

Abstract: A method and a system for implementing the method are disclosed wherein the seismic input data and land acquisition input data may be obtained from a non-flat surface, sometimes mild or foothill topography as well as the shot and receiver lines might not necessarily be straight, and often curve to avoid obstacles on the land surface. In particular, the method and system disclosed, decomposes the cross-spread data into sparse common spread beams, then maps those sparse beams into common-spread depth domain, in order to finally stack them to construct the subsurface depth images. The common spread beam migration and processing have higher signal to noise ratio, as well as faster turn-around processing time, for the cross-spread land acquisition over the common-shot or common offset beam migration/processing. The common spread beam migration method and system disclosed, will eventually help illuminate and interpret the hydro-carbonate targets for the seismic processing.
Abstract: A method and a system implementing the method, are disclosed for computing magnetic interferences in measurement while drilling operations, using the retrieved lateral, and axial magnetic interferences of the measurement while drilling downhole tool system. With the disclosed method and system of implementing the method, it can be determined whether the source of the magnetic interference is from the measurement while drilling downhole tool system lateral direction or its axial direction. When magnetic field strength is abnormal, the lateral and axial magnetic interferences are monitored, and then compared against their values before the abnormal magnetic field strength. This way the direction of the magnetic interference is analyzed to eliminate or judge the cause of the interference, and properly guide the measurement while drilling downhole tool system towards its reservoir or well location.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system implementing the method, are disclosed for computing small cave recognition models, using seismic reflection data. User inputs and earth-model data are obtained over points of incidence of a survey region, at various angles of incidence. Various models are then computed that serve for cave identification and take part in preliminary seismic exploration and reservoir characterization. Therefore, the attributes developed by the computer-implemented method and system serve as indicators of low velocity and density cave recognition which are capable of separating the cave events from the normal layer events; identifying caves with size larger than half to one wavelength of the dominant signal; and identifying cave diffractions from caves that contain a local maximal/minimal at around nine degrees in amplitude versus angle models.
