Publication number: 20070128408Abstract: A roof surfacing having increased reflectance comprises a roof membrane with a bituminous layer and a layer of generally flat particles placed in a generally overlapping geometry so as to substantially cover the bituminous layer. The composition of the particles includes a polymer and a filler. The polymer may be polyvinyl acetate (PVA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyester, acrylic, polymethylmethacrylate, or methylmethacrylate (MMA). The filler may be calcium carbonate, dolomite, or barium sulfate. The particles may further include a pigment, fire retardant, and/or anti-microbial agent. A method of creating a roof surfacing having increased reflectance includes creating a thin sheet of material having increased reflectance, dividing that sheet into multiple particles, feeding the particles through a hopper onto a curved directional plate, and placing the particles on a roof membrane having a molten bituminous layer in a generally horizontal direction to create an overlapping, scaled appearance.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2005Publication date: June 7, 2007Applicant: Siplast, Inc.Inventors: Kirk Goodrum, Tim Kersey

Patent number: 6769215Abstract: A roof structure includes a lightweight insulating concrete layer, a waterproof membrane overlying the concrete layer, and a plurality of adhesive pellets that are at least partially embedded in the concrete layer. At least some of the adhesive pellets are in contact with an adhesive layer of the waterproof membrane so that the waterproof membrane and the concrete layer are both adhesively bonded together.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2002Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Assignee: Siplast, Inc.Inventor: Philip M. Carkner

Patent number: 6290769Abstract: A lightweight insulating concrete composition includes a cementitious forming material and a lightweight aggregate combination of expanded vermiculite and expanded perlite, the weight ratio of one to the other not exceeding about 2:1. Preferably, the composition is about 4 parts by weight cementitious forming material and about 1 part by weight lightweight aggregate. The cementitious forming material may be a hydraulic binder and accelerator combination, and may be Portland cement, plaster of Paris, and terra alba, in a weight ratio of about 5:4:1, or calcium aluminate cement, and plaster of Paris, in a weight ratio of about 11:5. The composition may further include an air entraining admixture in an amount between about 0.5 and about 2.0 percent of the total weight of the mixture, where neutralized vinsol resin and alpha olefin sulfonate are acceptable, and a surfactant in an amount between about 0.3 and about 1.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1999Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: Siplast, Inc.Inventor: Philip M. Carkner

Patent number: 5865549Abstract: A device for applying a fluid coating, including a feed tube assembly having a plurality of feed tubes and valves for controlling the flow of fluid through each of the tubes, an extrusion tube coupled to each feed tube, and a fluid spreader coupled to the spreader tube.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: Siplast, Inc.Inventors: Jimmy Kinard, Todd Corley, Timothy Kersy, James Mollenhoff, Michael Steele

Patent number: 5787668Abstract: A composite roofing system in which a layer of polystyrene or polyurethane foam insulation board is encased in layers of lightweight insulating concrete and the surface of the foam insulation board is roughened to strengthen the interfacial bond with the surrounding layers of concrete and provide increased resistance to wind uplift, seismic activity, and degradation of the roofing system caused by vertical loads. Moisture which might otherwise become entrapped in the roofing system by the impermeable insulation board is ventilated out of the system by a combination of openings through the insulation board which permit the migration of moisture between the layers of concrete, and a plurality of lateral slots cut in the insulation board to permit further migration of moisture out of the system.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1996Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Siplast, Inc.Inventors: Philip M. Carkner, Todd L. Corley, Hubert T. Dudley, Timothy L. Kersey

Patent number: 5311716Abstract: A corrugated waterproof roof covering has a plurality of adjacently positioned sections. Each section includes an intermediate series of separated, adjacently positioned ridges interconnected by identical U-shaped channels. An additional lowered ridge is located at a first end of the series of ridges and appends from them by an L-shaped channel. An outer edge of the lowered ridge appends to a shallow U-shaped channel. The sections are positioned in edgewise overlying relation. An end ridge at a second end of each section overlies and receives the lowered ridge of an adjacent section to create a passageway therebetween and to laterally interlock the sections. A protective layer is positioned atop the rides, and fasteners extend through the layer for termination in the passageway for concealing the fasteners from view.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1993Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: Siplast, S.A.Inventor: Emmanuel Houssin

Patent number: 4481245Abstract: Bituminous sealing elements comprise a visible part and a part which serves for assembly thereof so as to form a continuous membrane. The assembly part is a "jointing zone" formed on the stripped edge of an element on which the edge of the adjacent element is applied by overlapping. To protect this zone, confer thereon the required strength and allow sticking by means of hot bitumen, adhesive or by means of a blowlamp, a web of low-weight porous, volatile non woven fibers, is used buried in the binder of the welding strip.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1982Date of Patent: November 6, 1984Assignee: Siplast, S.A.Inventor: Jean-Yves Meynard

Patent number: 4437781Abstract: A ring binder comprising a pair of covers connected by a flexible back portion consisting of a flexible back strip which separates the inner edges of the cover and strip portions which overlap portions of the covers near the inner edges. The overlapping portions of the covers are provided with pairs of holes for receiving flexible binder prong means having a free end which extends through an eye at another end to form a loop.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1982Date of Patent: March 20, 1984Assignee: Siplast Siegerlander GmbHInventors: Rolf Weihe, Georg Weihe

Patent number: 4343847Abstract: A carrier is coated with a suitable adhesive. That surface of the adhesive which is to be placed in contact with the support for the membrane is united with an assembly consisting of a film, and a sheet of material which does not bond to the film. The sheet is impermeable to the hot adhesive, and both film and sheet have perforations which are in substantial alignment. The sheet is positioned on the outside of the assembly, facing toward the support. The adhesive is exposed through the aligned perforations and provides continuity of material throughout the membrane. The imperforated portions of film and sheet can slide relative to each other, thus providing a so-called "limited-slip sheet" for the membrane. Preferably, the impermeable sheet is preperforated, while the perforations in the film are created by the heat of the adhesive, as both film and sheet are applied simultaneously with the coatings of the carrier by the adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1980Date of Patent: August 10, 1982Assignee: Siplast S.A.Inventor: Jean-Yves Meynard
