Patents Assigned to SKF Industries, Inc.
  • Patent number: 4046433
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for motor vehicles with at least two bearing parts which can turn relative to one another, between which at least two rows of roll bodies are arranged. The bearing parts each have an outer portion, the first of said outer portions being fastened to the vehicle, the other to the wheel. The fastening is effected by mating threads axially aligned between one outer portion and a connecting part. Means are provided for securing the mated threaded portions against relative loosening rotation.

  • Patent number: 4042422
Abstract: A method of forming a rotary element for a wheel comprising a brake device provided for example with a brake disc and a bearing having an outer and an inner ring between which rolling elements in two rows are arranged, the rings being provided with a flange to which parts of the wheel or such mechanism can be attached, characterized in that at least the inner ring, the flange and the brake device part form a single homogeneous unit and are heat treated as a unit, the ring forming the running surface of the two rows of rolling element which center a cage.

  • Patent number: 4040684
Abstract: A rolling bearing comprising two rotating parts formed by an inner and outer race fitted with mounting flanges, a plurality of rows of rolling elements, separated by cages, positioned between the races, and a plane seal for sealing the races to prevent the ingress of foreign substances while retaining any lubricant that is present in the space between the races and the seal, the plane seal being formed by a space in a substantially axial direction between the surfaces of the two rotating parts and having a seal placed therein.

  • Patent number: 3990753
Abstract: A bearing comprising inner and outer members having inner and outer raceways spaced apart to define an annular space, a plurality of rolling elements in the annular space between the raceways, said rolling elements adapted to engage said members at inner and outer raceway contact zones, and means operable during operation of the bearing to cause at least the rolling elements in the load zone to assume a non-negative skew angle within a predetermined angular range; said rolling elements having a skew angle when the rolling element axis and the axis of the bearing are not coplanar and said skew angle being positive when the friction force components in the axial direction arising in each contact between a rolling element and said raceways and acting on the rolling element are so directed that they add onto or are codirectional to the axial component of the normal contact force load carried by said rolling element at that contact.

  • Patent number: 3971565
Abstract: A nonrotatable seal assembly is provided for use with a conventional pillow block housing to form a positive barrier to prevent the entry of foreign contamination. The seal assembly has a thin body portion provided with two peripheral grooves each adapted to receive a rib on a wall of the pillow block housing with a deformable sealing member on the outer periphery of said body portion between the grooves. Said seal assembly has a pin extending into the wall of the pillow block housing to prevent relative rotation therebetween. A thicker body portion of the seal assembly contains a lubrication recess between first and second seals with a conventional lubrication fitting communicating with said recess.

  • Patent number: 3963285
Abstract: A bearing comprising inner and outer members such as rings having inner and outer raceways spaced apart to define an annular space therebetween and a plurality of rolling elements in the annular space. A cage circumferentially spaces the rolling elements. Skew control means associated with the cage operates during operation of the bearing for a predetermined relative movement of the rings and rollers, to cause at least the rollers in the load zone to assume a nonnegative skew angle within a predetermined angular range. The rollers have a skew angle when the roller axis and the axis of the bearing are not coplanar. The skew angle is defined as being positive when the friction force components in the axial direction arising between the rollers and raceways and acting on a raceway are so directed that they counteract the axial load component of the external load acting on said raceway.
